Steam Deck DIY Repair Fail - Can I Fix It?! I paid $350 for this broken Steam Deck. The seller said they dropped it and broke the screen, but then they replaced it and it worked for a while and then stopped working. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out what is wrong and get it working again.

I bricked my Steam Deck and it behaved very similarly. It turned out the bios was bad and I had to reflash the BIOS chip with a CH341 programmer, might be worth a look. Wishing you all the best as well, Steve!

Get well soon, if the doctors are half as good as you at repairs then you have nothing to worry about. All the best.

Praying for a swift recovery, Steve! Glad you are doing Ok with treatments so far and can still do most of what you normally would. Also glad you are taking time when you need. I am always happy to see TronicsWife in your vids and would be glad to see her make her own. Feel free to let her continue that even when you are back in tip top shape 😉

Steve, I too was diagnosed with cancer, stage 4 pancreatic. Just received my 2nd chemo and I am feeling better and able to get around and do the thing I like, watching your channel being one of them. Hang in there and we'll go through this together...

I had lymphoma 12 years ago. Had two surgeries. All went fine. And you will recover soon, don't worry, man.
  • @JouZero
Hey there, I'm the guy who sold you the deck! Very excited to see how this turns out. I was close to going down the "It bricked, let's try reflashing the BIOS" route but never pulled the trigger on it. Seemed just a tad too daunting for my experience level. Good luck! Wishing you all the best!:virtualhug:

Been watching your videos for a while now and I enjoy your content. You've motivated me to learn how to fix my electronics and to continue to learn. Sucks to hear what your going through. Would like to pay it forward. I hope you beat it and you're around for a long time. I really enjoy and appreciate all your content.

First off, I am praying for a speedy and full recovery. I was able to find this on reddit, and it didnt look like it was something you tried. Hopefully this works! "Completely power it off Connect the ac adapter (the LED should be solid white) Press the volume + and the "..." button in front of your deck for 10 seconds When the LED starts blinking 3 times disconnect the power brick while still pressing the buttons When the LED turns off after blinking connect it again to the ac adapter and it should boot normally"
  • I'm huge fan and have been watching your videos for the last couple of years! Because of you I've started repairing the old electronics I used as a kid! I cannot thank you enough for getting me into this hobby. I wish you the best and hope for a swift recovery. Much love for Portland Oregon!!!!!

  • Good luck with your fight. I was diagnosed over 4yrs ago myself, chemo is definitely yucky, lol. I haven't lost my head hair but my legs are nearly hairless now. Best wishes and fight the good fight!

Steve, love you man. You're the reason I discovered my love of electronics and soldering. Now I'm into solar systems, building and fixing small electronics and toys, and it all started with watching your channel. Not to mention you're a good looking dude (bald or not). I appreciate you and how genuine and down to earth you are, it is comforting to see in an angry nerd dominated industry. I'm always excited to see a new video. I hope you're resting and taking care of yourself as best you can during this time. Wish you the best with everything!
  • @SpookyDeCat
I feel you Steve, 1 am a 2015 pancreatic cancer survivor. Savor every day. Love the videos.

  • @MusicWithoutwax
You’ve honestly been an inspiration to me since I first started following this channel - then to not be afraid to face DIY repair projects, and now to be fearless in facing the biggest of life’s broken screens
  • @laurentiurosianu
First of all, I wish you all the best with your health. If I recall, the black screen is a known problem with the steam deck. You can try to refresh the bios via a programmer. Maybe that will fix it.
