  • The guy on the right is correct. Under A Funeral Moon was designed to sound exactly like what it is. To criticize it harshly means it's not your forte. That's cool too. But the whole point has sort of been missed then. I am not a fan of symphonies, but I understand they are designed to have that specific sound. Thus, I have no commentary about them. A raw Black Metal work is the same way.
  • Shredlord knows whats up! The Lo-Fi coldness is part of the whole atmosphere. Under a funeral moon is my favourite. Old star was sick though.

Transylvanian Hunger hits different when you listen to it in the middle of a snowstorm <3 What discography rankings do you guys have planned next?
  • @joeyuzwa891
Transilvanian Hunger is my favorite darkthrone album. Shred, thanks for actually understanding the band lmao Edit: yeah uh, about TH being my favorite... Eternal Hails is now my favorite lol

Great effort lads. Darkthrone has a beast of a discography. Really enjoyed the video 🤘 Jammin Jon digging into Darkthrone for the first time made for some entertaining comments.
  • A Blaze In The Northern Sky is an eternal classic. Love every bit of it. Under A Funeral Moon is quality BM as well.
  • I love how divisive Darkthrone is. No two lists are alike. That said, there were loads of hot takes in this video, but it was fun to watch in between the 30-40 ad interruptions.

Under a Funeral Moon is my number one - in hindsight, a transitional record, but I think it's as dark as hell, really evil, brutally raw atmosphere. But Transylvanian Hunger is their most extreme statement - it's like Filosem, closer to dark ambient / noise music than metal, even though it's being made by a metal band. I know this sounds weird, but listen to it on headphones late at night, when it's quiet and turn the volume down. Creepy as hell - it'll take you places.

Personally my first black metal album was Transilvanian hunger but the feelings and the atmosphere that a blaze in northern sky brings. Is another level

I own all 18 of their albums. My favorite is "Transilvanian Hunger".
  • This is ace. After a few beers with the guys last week and being scolded, I literally just started on a Darkthrone binge. I knew absolutely nothing about them aside from a few albums/songs, but I'm now most of the way through their discography. I LOVE Soulside Journey. Can't believe I've never listened to it before (Goatlord was pretty neat too). My next favourite stuff so far has been the Ravishing Grimness/Plagueweilder/Hate Them period. Panzerfaust is great too. I get the feeling I missed the boat on the OG BM 'trinity'', and struggle with the sound of them a bit more. 100% understand why people love those 3 records though.  Gonna be listening to the last handful of albums tomorrow. D-beat crust all the way!

I could be in the minority but I've always preferred Darkthrone's later material to the super grim, ultra lo fi early albums... The Cult is Alive, Underground Resistance and Old Star are my favourites!
  • Just wanted to say I just discovered you guys from your review of the awful nightmare of the decomposed, and I'm hooked. Thank you for introducing me to a lot I havent heard of. Subscribed for sure and keep being brutal dudes. 🤘🤘🤘

My buddy introduced me to A Blaze in the Northern Sky in high school and it was my first real black metal exposure. I didn’t know what to make of it but he loved the rawness and I did think it was pretty different and cool. Then I totally lost touch with Darkthrone until a friend at the record store told me to get Old Star and I absolutely fucking love that album. 100% with you guys in hoping it’s indicative of how their next one or two will be and I’m excited to hear they’re in the studio hashing that out for us!
