Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Caught Me Off Guard… | Review

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has hopped from phones to our consoles. With Square Enix sending me a review code, I wanted to take a similar approach as I did to the Battle Network Legacy Collection. By that, I mean I looked at how the new bells and whistles impact the core experience rather than speaking on the games individually. With so many "definitive versions" for each of the respective Final Fantasy games thanks to their many ports, can the Pixel Remasters hope to replace that? It's a case-by-case basis, so let's run through what Square is up to with these games.

  • Audio issues fixed! Sorry if the screeching scared the life out of you! <3
  • If you play them through sequentially, the jump in storytelling from entry to entry is phenomenal. Really gives you a sense of how breaking edge the company was back in the 80s and 90s.

Jesus what happened at 3:35 almost gave me a heart attack

I want to point out that the physical version, if they're anything like other collection bundles, will have each game as an individual game as well. You'll still see them on your home screen all the same as a separate game.

Man, I'm so glad you posted this. I've been hoping for a nice review that kept the gba games in mind. You're quickly becoming one of my favorite content creators!

I have a story about FF4. Back when it was FF2 on the SNES, it taught me how to read. I was in the third grade, and I just wasn’t picking up reading very well. This game totally did the trick though.

2nd upload HYYYYYPE! Thanks for fixing it right away, my ears only bled a little bit 😅

I got the bundle today. Was kind of expecting the price when of all things, an option to change the font made these a day 1 purchase. I've never played 1,2 and 3 and never finished 4 and 5 (although being at the end and getting sidetracked). Currently lvl 12 on FF1 and loving life!!

13-2 is one my fave final fantasies. That music is a force to be reckoned with.
  • I am hyped. I fell off the trophy hunting bandwagon years ago, but the Pixel Remaster reinvigorated that excitement to work towards a platinum again. Definitely starting with FF1 and going right into VI

I love that you spent some time talking about IV. It gets overlooked so often but it's my favorite

I’m so excited for you to try FF4! This one’s my first and favorite if I had a dollar for every time I played that game as a kid I would probably be pretty far into being able to buy the bundle 😂 i can still recite that storyline by heart

I have such nostalgic love for Final Fantasy IV. 4 was always my favorite. I eventually got the Snes version later in life but I had a friend in elementary school who found a GBA cartridge of FF4 on the ground and gave it to me. That was my first introduction. Then I also managed to get both DS and Psp versions... I could buy 4 again now if not all 6.
  • Ngl, that little audio blip at 3:36 scared the shit outta me while I was doing laundry with my ear buds in. 😂

I'll likely get these on sale at some point, but I've played them all, extensively, on their original platforms...and still have them. I played the first FF when it released in the US in 1988 and have been engrossed by the series ever since. They're fun rpgs and the story telling was WAY ahead of its time.

The 3:41 second jump scare noise got me to jump out my seat omg 😂😭 but great review I can’t wait to download it when I get home tonig
  • @dennisscott2516
Looking forward to this. I played 1, 2 and 5 so I’m looking forward to 3,4 and 6. Great vid

Matty, I hope you're doing stellar! Been really enjoying your videos, keep it up! Does anyone know if the original English release translations are used in the pixel remasters or did they change the translations/scripts? I haven't heard anyone comment on that aspect. Have a great one!
