If I remember correctly, that model Celica had a Toyota commercial with an old guy on the neighborhood side walk pointing his cane at a parked one yelling "slow down!" and the advertisement point was they look fast even sitting still. It was hilarious.
  • The 1ZZ-FE engines are notorious for oil consumption caused by piston rings frozen with carbon deposits. The drilled extra holes from 2003 or 2004 which partly solved the problem. But basically it's a rebuild once the problem starts (often around 100 000 miles/160000 km), as it will only worsen with time.

I got 330,000 miles on my GTS before an accident finally retired it. A lot of people destroy their engine when they miss a downshift...shift into second instead of fourth.
  • The 2zz is a great engine. The gts manual is as fun as any car out there. I had 300k on my gts with original engine and still going strong when i sold it.
  • This is my second Celica the first one was involved in a crash so I got another one 7th generation 2002 GTS. I've had this since 2013 and it runs like the day I bought it. Is small, Zippy and paid for! I'm going to own mine forever!

I'm an accountant too and recently got a Camry. I love this baby - smooth and reliable. :)

I am the 2nd owner of a 1990 Celica GTS 5 speed still with the original engine and transmission. It has the 2.2L 5S-FE engine which is a very common and practically bullet proof motor. Pretty much a zero drama car.
  • I personally owned an '04 GTS 6MT and it was a hoot to drive. Never had any issues with it and even upgraded the cams in the 2zz. I once drive a GT Celica and ran back to my car. The GT was just way too slow for me. Felt like it couldn't out accelerate a semi
  • You can definitely tell the car has been loved by its owner. It looks brand new on the outside AND the inside.
  • Scotty, the Celica GTS 2ZZGE is great! I know lots of owners with well over 100k miles on them. You just made a similar video not even a year ago. Must be old age.
  • @TJ-id6ee
Wow, I love that the owner has taken such good care of it! What a cute Celica.😍
  • Yep we had a 95 in perfect condition but my wife liked the 2001 body style so we sold the 95 & got a huge lemon. I kick myself for selling the 95
  • While most of what Scotty said about the 2ZZGE is true, they aren’t necessarily bad engines. Mine had over 230,000 miles before going out. Just stay on top of your maintenance and if you are gonna do any hard track driving or high rpm driving please get a baffled oil pan and after market oil pump
  • You can see scotty falling back in love again his eyes just sparkle looking at the celica
  • @komradkolonel
My favorite Celica was the third generation that was made between 1981 to 1985. The later GT-S with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder had decent torque and was a very reliable engine. If only Toyota would re-introduce a RWD Celica but I'm not holding out hope.
  • @malezra843
I just bought an 03 celica gt manual. My first manual and I love it to death.
  • @hemingwayarts
Mine rusted and cost 2 grand in welding! but iv've been rear ended and it took the beating, tough little sports cars.
