It's an Easter egg. We never knew Penny's last name in TBBT. We are told Penny babysits Sheldon's daughter. His daughter is never named.

Completely unnecessary speculation that serves no purpose.

Shelldon's son was named after Leonard Nimoy, the actor who played Spock.

This is a stretch that Leonard is dead.

i think the cal tech ending was probably right, i did like the moment, i just think it seemed abrupt because of the commercial before it. If they put it before the break with some kind of transition i think it plays like they intended it to. Waiting during the commercials made the ending anticlimatic, even if it was a good way to end. CBS should've let them break the format on commercials and given the ending room to breathe

Just because he named his Son Leonard does not mean Leonard is dead. It's not uncommon for people to name their kids after someone that was a strong influence on their lives exp father, brother, best friend so on and so on. Leonard and Shelton were best friends Lenard had an influence on Shelton. Sure it's possible he is dead but people are jumping on this theory just because they share the same name

No reason really to support the theory Leonard passed away. In season 2 of Young Sheldon, older Sheldon's narration says he named his son after Leonard Nimoy (Spock). Amy would not let him use Nimoy as his middle name though.

Based on the context provided I believe we can safely deduce the character of Leonard suffered greatly at the hands of a madman.

It was mentioned in a early episode with an unbelievable comment that Amy didn't want to name the child Leonard. Like why wouldn't she, she liked Leonard.

It could be context driven. You gotta remember that your friends are but a small part of your life and then your wife and children become your entire life.This is especially true if they live in different cities because you tend to see each other a lot less and you get new friends. To wit, why would Sheldon and Amy need to clarify which Leonard if the context does not include the Hofstadters in any way? If the context includes talking about the activities their children do then Sheldon, of all people, should be able to infer which Leonard is being referenced.

The ending of the episode felt abrupt. Thought they would’ve gone back to adult Sheldon or had some kind of montage with something from season 1. The walking through the house felt more appropriate than the cal tech ending The rest of the episode was good.

There was an episode of TBBT where Leonard and Shelfon had a big fight over the Roommate Agreement. It ended when Leonard agreed to sign it, and Sheldon agreed to name one day a year as Leonard Day and to name all of his children after Leonard. So it looks like he at least named his eldest after Leonard to honor the Agreement .

I guess it was partly to do with having to set everyone up to start moving towards their more intense and estranged versions we know from TBBT and it was challenging to reconcile Mary’s fundamentalist turn with a final scene together. Would’ve still liked to see a bit more closure at the end

Amy and sheldon literally say in the last few episodes of the Big Bang that sheldon was going to name his kid after his best friend, just watch the last episode of Big Bang
