I get the feeling this isn't really about hexaflexaflakes, is it?
  • when she makes bologna hexaflexagons and you can’t even make a single one without failing
  • @GoblinMask
I just watched someone fold snowflakes, and make a sandwich, while complaining about math. That's pretty much my life too
  • The thing with the 2x2x2 folds thing is that you do get 8 symmetric sections, but they only meet on 4 lines of each type (you technically get 8 meetings, like with your first one the loops and the points). We see it as 4 because we see the individual half shapes as whole shapes. If you punched a design in each of these sections, you'd see it easier... and it'd be helpful to have them centered and symmetric (as adjacent ones are mirrored)... which is easy to do by folding it in half again.

(if we had a class together) hey vihart can i barrow a sharpie? vihart: a magical sharpie appears out of nowhere here you go.
  • This is actually a really good commentary on political standpoints in the modern era. This is art.

I'm disapointed because I misread the title and I thought you would teach how to make hexaflexa-CAKES
  • @AstroRoxy
Christmas was incomplete without hexa-flexa-flakes ❄️

YES! YOU ARE THE AUTHORITY WHO SHOULD BE LISTENED TO AND IF THEY WON’T LISTEN TO YOU, YOU WILL MAKE THEM LISTEN. anyway...

Vi, I just wanted to tell you that I am going to be teaching a class of 4th graders on my own time about Hexaflexagons and how math is not curriculum math but that it is, as you always say, making up rules with numbers and seeing what happens. You are a huge inspiration and just thought you may want to know.
  • "Logic flavored argument" Literally every argument I've ever gotten into
  • @OrangeC7
When ViHart starts making baloney snowflakes, you know something's just gone over your head.

I miss math class😢 YOUR MATH CLASS

"it will soon b a hexaflexa...gone" Me: DIES ON FLOOR
  • Saying 2x2x2=8 proves that 3 half folds makes 8 lines of symmetry is as logical as saying 2+2+2=6 so 3 half folds gives us 6 lines of symmetry. Both are equally wrong while both can be considered right by any fool. Think about it this way: if you fold a peice of paper in half Once it has one fold of symetry despite having 2 symetrical sections Fold it in half Twice and it has 2 folds of symmetry despite having 4 symetrical sections Fold it in half Three times and it has 4 fold of symetry despite having 8 symetrical sections So yes, 2x2x2 (or shall we say 2 to the 3rd power) is 8 but the fold of symmetry are actually 2 to the (n-1) power where "n" is replaced by the number of folds because 3 folds does not give you 2 to the 3rd power of symetry - it gives you 2 to the 2nd power lines of symmetry. Similarily 4 folds gives you 2 to the 3rd and 5 fold gives you 2 to the 4th.

Could u make a hexflexagon but in a octaflexagon

Being flexible in thinking is indeed valuable. Thanks for sharing Vi
