That's incredibly sad. She wanted to give her dogs the loving care she did every day, which included a morning walk. My heart is breaking for all three of them, as well as for her daughter, and all who loved her.

When my dad was young he witnessed a guy get struck and killed by lightning when he went to go under a tree for shelter in the storm. I grew up with my dad teaching us to always take storms and lightening seriously. Of course, never seek shelter under a tree either!

As a former housekeeper, I pay my respects. May she and her two dogs rest in peace.

I worked as an EMT and to see random acts or accidents involving innocent people is so hard to comprehend. Won’t go into stories because I have seen enough to know we are never safe as we believe we are.

Very sad. Such a tragic thing to happen. RIP Antonia Mendoza and her two dogs.

That's so sad, life is so fragile, one moment you're caring for your puppies, and in a flash it's just over. All my love to her family. Edit: Some people are making jokes in the comments section, the intent of this comment is not to be funny, and I would hope that people making jokes never have to experience such a thing in their own lives.

When we were children, 7 of us, we were forbidden to go outside during a storm. That danger my mother drove into us and I have followed that advice even now at 65. My prayers go out to her family.

As a fellow dog owner I find this story to be absolutely heartbreaking, my condolences to her friends and family.

Okay, I'll admit that I'm one of those that didn’t take lightning strikes seriously. I would often not take heed to the weather alerts urging residents to stay inside & would venture out no matter how bad storms & flashes of light were present. I will now take this seriously. So sorry this happened to this woman & her two little doggies. 😢

She died walking her babies while also trying to stay active, she probably loved to walk, I respect her so much. R.I.P

A lot of people saying there is nothing she could have done. But she could have been safe and stayed indoors, maybe take the dogs out to do their business and that’s it. It looked like she walked into the middle of a flat, barren field with no telephone poles or buildings nearby during a thunderstorm. She probably had some indication that there was a storm. She could have kept herself and her dogs safe and the least we can all do is learn something from her unfortunate mistake and not do the same. You can’t completely control your fate but you can at least guide it.

This interview is a great example of why people shouldn’t judge someone smiling after hearing terrible news, it’s a very human reaction that some people have and it’s not an indication of anything bad. Some people laugh or smile when they’re uncomfortable with what they’re talking about. I definitely have noticed myself doing it in uncomfortable situations. I feel for her, lost a homie.

This is heartbreaking. 🕊Rest In Peace sweetheart and to those little puppies.🕊

This proves that you should never go outside no matter what during a storm, even if you think you won't get struck, it might just happen.

My heart goes out to this lady’s family and loved ones.

My cousin Matt was struck when he was 11. He spent the next 35 years in a chair, unable to do anything. He gurgled and snorted occasionally, but that was the extent of his "life." He just died a few months ago, and I've never been more relieved. I understand he was my aunt and uncle's kid, but I just couldn't understand allowing my own flesh and blood suffer like that for so many years. They should've pulled the plug soon after it happened.

So sad. RIP and condolences to her family and all who knew her. When I was a young teen I was struck by lightning and was lucky to have survived.
  • I know this very sad and heartbreaking... But who in the actual hell goes out during a thunderstorm?!
  • @robyd
I remember coming home from my grave shift that day and my coworkers in the morning was telling me how scary it was outside. Condolences to her loved ones. Rest In Peace 💔
