  • We’ve been memorising catechisms and loving it!!! We’ve been doing it slowly!!! We go thru devotionals with my teenagers a few times a week!!! We love morning virtues!!! Nothing wrong with a slower pace when needed!!! My kids hate war stories so we do them rarely but we are in Hawaii so my older kids are going to peal harbour with a family friend who can explain it better!!! My older kids are teenagers so they don’t always listen to me!!! I love the role playing phase!!! We love doing science orally and my older daughter tells me what she’s learning and her experiments as she’s gifted in science!!!

I loved the old Sonlight K too. We did not love the Pig book or Feelings but we made it through. I do think American history was over a 5 year old's level but she did retain everything we learned about women in history so this year we're reading lots of biographies on women's accomplishments from the library. I don't think we'll do Sonlight science again because of the experiments. It just seemed like a lot. I also think the level of reading aloud was intense if you need more than one level at a time. Right now we're doing Master Books for math, language arts, and science and then doing a variety of readers to supplement. It's so much more manageable with the three kids.

I'm wondering about the science videos too. You are totally selling me on Sonlight especially to use as group subjects 😊😊😊 the videos you watch are just the Discover & Do videos?

Great video! How does Sonlight history work? Does the teacher guide tell you which book to read? Are there lessons in the TG or is it just a guide to tell you what to read?

I hope this is okay to ask… would you say, as a whole, that you prefer Sonlight over The Good and the Beautiful? The latter is what I’ve landed on the start with my daughter in the fall as we begin her preschool year, but I’m wondering if Sonlight would be a good backup in case TGATB isn’t a good fit for her.

Thanks for the suggestions and going over the books you’re reading. I’m already on the internet ordering a few. Where do you find your lists? * I see it is Sonlight. Their website baffles my mind.
  • Is there a video for every Sonlight science experiment? Was it difficult to keep up with all the reading? Just curious—why would you spend an entire year studying American history when you live in New Zealand? Thanks for sharing!!
