  • After playing both Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy, I gotta say... These HD-2D games started to grow on me.

Golden Sun should not be that hard to convert over to HD-2D. I just hope after the classics and fan favorites are out that Golden Sun gets some love.

I love games that are still confident in the beauty of 2D sprites. I've been saying for a long time I wish Pokemon kept sprites and just evolved like live a live or octopath.

Love your enthusiasm! The remake is like a dream come true. I haven't identified an area where I think the game isn't as good or better than the original which I already loved. THIS is how you do a remake.

I’ve been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced and this video just solidifies my reason for buying it. This art style is my favorite thing going right now in the game industry and I love the different stories, even if some are better than others. Great video man!

I just finished the Switch remake, got the true ending, and holy guacamole that ending sequence was nothing short of phenominal!

I actually JUST beat this game last night and MY GOD this remake was everything i wanted it to be and more. The quality of life changes are wonderful, the voice acting can be hit or miss with a lot of people but i enjoyed it, the music is just LEGENDARY. When i played the orginal Fan translated SNES version on a Rom i loved this game but had some frsutrating moments with certain chapters, particularly with Edo Japan chapter. NOW i love all the chapters and what they contain. I want to go back and complete Obomaru's chapter without killing anyone. I want to go back and find EVERY hidden boss and defeat them for the hell of it. I want to find all the secrets and expirience them for myself. Thats how much this remake means to me now. It's also added some extra mini games and story bits that make the overall expirience so much better then the original SNES version. It's the same story but improved in a lot of ways. My personal Hope is Square sees Live a Live as a potential new series for Experimentation, which is what this game was originally. They could market this game as giving new employees a chance to make new bite sized stories and more.
  • Man I think I've used my switch more than anything else this year. So many jrpgs to play!
  • @eddielopez6796
I love the art style as well. I wouldn't mind if they made more JRPGs in this style

One interesting thing to note is that every chapter is based on some popular media of the genre involved, at least per some interviews surrounding the original which was itself a bit of a skunkworks project. Far Future is probably the easiest to identify combining aspects of 2000 (HAL) and Alien (the Behemoth). Or current day with Masaru basically being a Street Fighter main. The big boi in Imperial China was called Sammo in the fan translation because, well... he is both big and fast and derived from Sammo Hung's old Hong Kong action flicks (which are amazing and you should watch them because he is big and fast and how does he bend like that?). Coupled with Yoko Shimomura rocking like 8 different musical themes... but given her work on stuff like Street Fighter 2 itself and many, many more after of course she did. I really love this game and this remaster.

Just discovered the channel with your ff 12 video. The videos themselves are great, but the way you are able to explain each element of the games makes you stand out from the rest of the pack. I look forward to watching more of your reviews =]

Definitely looks and sounds like another great jrpg. Right up my wheel house. Will be picking this one up after I get through some backlog of games. Another great video Matty thank you!
  • @reaurt
I played the original SNES version with a fan translation way back in the day. It felt a bit short, but very unique and well put together, definitely worth playing. Glad they remade it and are sharing it with a wider audience.
  • FYI: This game from the Squaresoft era was composed by Yoko Shimomura and directed by Takashi Tokita (FF IV, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve)!
  • @SakuraGraffiti
I've been wanting to play and beat this game since I heard about it in EGM back in the day and I tried playing a bit of it in Japanese when it was possible to emulate so to be able to finally play an official translation was already enough for me but the remake does so much more! I just complete this game last night with the "True" ending and I loved every bit of it! Definitely going up there with my favorites!
  • In my opinion, the most amazing thing about this game is how it blends game types and gimmicks in each of it's stories, like Edo being RPG/infiltration, Western being RPG/management, Present being RPG/VsFighting, the game is like a love letter to video gaming. Each chapter has both clever design and things to say. So glad they decided to remake this masterpiece

Got my copy sitting here. Wrapping up Aria of Sorrow and jumping in!
  • @Sdturtle1023
So far finished the Far future and modern day storyline and am loving it! Played the far future in the demo and then stopped when it ended and preordered the game. Love all the HD-2D games and I knew I'd get this one when it was announced.
  • I had no idea about this game, glad you made a video cause this is definitely up my street. Also, Matty if you read this I have a game recommendation for you. Cosmic Star Heroine is basically a love letter to chrono trigger set in a blade runner esque cyberpunk world. The art is beautiful as well!
  • Pretty good overview. I picked up my copy yesterday and I'm on my third character (Edo Japan after Pre-History and Imperial China). Really loving it. So happy it seems to be getting a good reception.
