They're three of the most talented female singers of all time - Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. All superstars in their own right, but they're also great friends, and over the years they've come together to make exquisite music.

But Linda Ronstadt faces a crippling disease that is slowly robbing her of her ability to sing. Undaunted, Linda's facing her illness with tremendous courage, helped by her two dear friends. And, as Steve Pennells discovered, these three women still have one last collaboration to share with their fans.

This story originally aired on the 11th September 2016.

Every time I hear Linda Ronstadt speak in an interview, my love and admiration for her grows a bit more. "I can still sing in my mind"... Gave me chills...

I went to a Dolly concert at Interlochen MI in the 90s. I knew where she was staying in town, so I left a note at the hotel desk for her letting her know we would be in the front row and it was our 40th anniversary. I asked her to sing "Eagle When She Flies" for my wife. She came on. Walked back and forth. Nodded questioningly to me and I returned the nod with a Thumbs Up. She then stood right there and gave the entire concert to me and my wife. She talked to us, asked if we were having a good time. She dedicated EAGLE" to my wife and me. She sang "Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like That" to me. She sang "He's Alive" at the end. I cried. She blew us a kiss before she left the stage for the last time. It was like having a private concert. My wife was REALLY impressed. Dollie Parton is one classy lady for sure.

Ronstadt's repertoire was staggering. Rock, pop, standards, country, mexican, operetta(The Pirates of Penzance), opera(Puccini's La Boheme). Nobody else could match this.

I hope when Linda finally passes it's not just us old folks who give her praise. I grew up on her music, and I wish younger people today knew how important she was to the industry.

Linda Ronstadt was not only an exquisite singer, she also is an extremely strong and resilient person.

"Don't think I'm a dumb country girl 'cause I dress like one!" Now THAT'S Dollly! God bless her forever.

I’ve loved Linda’s voice since I first heard Different Drum on the radio; I was about 8 or 9, and she was all over the radio. Long, Long Time, When Will I Be Loved—just such great songs. As soon as I was old enough to buy records with my allowance, I was buying her singles. In tenth grade 1981, she was still killing it, the queen of rock ‘n roll. All through high school, hers was the only music I would play in my car—my sister and my friends would just roll their eyes and say, “oh no, it’s LR again???” And I’d say YUP and blast Livin’ in the USA or Mad Love. Just such greatness. Such vocal control and depth in her voice. Even now, in 2023, I want to cry when I listen to her, knowing that these recordings are all we have. I just want more! But I’m so thankful I heard Different Drum that day in the early 70s. It changed my life.

Used to admire your talent, now I admire your courage, strength, and way of facing adversity. You are, forever, amazing, Linda!

Three beautiful singers and no auto tune.

Dolly is a national treasure. Not only has she shared her amazing singing and song writing with us. Plus her films. She's gave so much financial help for so many. The books that she's gave to children all over the world. Her father couldn't read at all, That inspired her to do that book foundation. There's no room for to list all ways Dolly has helped people.

When Linda Ronstadt sings "Blue Bayou " she takes you to a place where your staring and feeling the sunrise she sings about. Linda is God's gift to all.
  • Linda, you may be very critical of your own voice. We often are our own worst enemies. But the truth is…we, your fans, think your voice is fantastic! Your music has given us -and keeps on giving us - countless happy hours. So when you feel critical again think of your fans who love every note you sang. Timeless music! Thanks for the interview, all of you!

They are all inspiring women and singers... It's just so sad to see people like Linda and Celine Dion not being able to do what they were born to do anymore... This teaches us a lot, especially that we must do what we like before it is too late, life is unpredictable.

How could you not love these 3? For their music, spirit and beauty. Emmy Lou is correct: Linda had the best voice of my generation. Dolly is correct: Linda has one of the all time great voices.
  • Blue bayou is one of the best vocal performances ever! Oh Linda!

I've always imagined that when your time comes to pass away, You'll be standing in this golden elevator that takes you to Heaven. And the music playing in the elevator is from these three supremely talented women.
