Tam Mỹ Tây - Protecting critically endangered langurs in Vietnam

Published 2023-06-29
The grey-shanked douc langurs of Tam Mỹ Tây in Vietnam cling onto four small islands of natural forest. With only 1000 individuals remaining in Vietnam, they are listed on the IUCN Red List as critically endangered. Surrounded by a mosaic of community-owned plantations, a determined forest owner, Mr Danh, seeks help from his community, as the langurs feel the pressure.

I think this video shows the power of community and proper communication. They didn't press or order people to donate land, but told them the benefits and gave them a choice. And even though one person alone couldn't have changed any with such a small strip of land, adding up everyone's donations realpy made a big difference. Hugely inspiring!
