  • I love how any time Melissa gives a piece of Jewelry a second look Alex asks her if she likes it and might want to keep it. Not that she could not just keep any piece she wanted to have anyway, but it is sweet that he asks her.
  • I am almost positive that that little wrench money clip is actually a tie clip. The "Hand" is protection from the Evil Eye called a Hamsa, popular in North Africa and Middle East. Thanks for the fun! 👋

I noticed one of the items was Sarah Coventry. That jewelry was popular in the 1960s and 1070s in the US. I believe you could only order from an individual (kind of like Tupperware or Avon). Very good quality costume jewelry.
  • The pins you thought might be hatpins are called stick pins and were usually worn on the lapel.

The pearl beads are probably covering over opal glass, if they’re from the fifties or sixties( or earlier) . The ring with the amber colored stone is maybe topaz, my birthstone. The hand is called a Hamsa hand or Hand of Fatima; it’s good luck. Rhinestones are really collectible. The baby spoons are so sweet!
  • There is a ton of costume jewelry that is far more expensive than most diamonds and gold pieces.

Hello, the "bent over spoon" is an old baby spoon designed that way. Nice suitcase full of jewelry. ❤❤❤
  • AWW, MADE ME SAD THAT THE FAMILY DIDN'T KEEP THE FAMILY RING & BABY SILVERWARE BUT I KNOW WHEN YOU'RE CLEANING OUT AN ESTATE YOU CAN'T KEEP EVERYTHING. GREAT FIND!

We love how you ask Melissa to sift through the jewelry and then you kinda get a little pushy and start going through the stuff yourself.😄

I love the suitcase. Those things are back in style. It's in good shape.

Hi from Belgium! This suitcase was full of mid-century European kind of jewelry. The Venise pendant earrings may be made with venetian glass, worth checking! The double bohemian crystal necklace with the earrings reminds me of one I Inherited from my grandma ( from the 50's) You found a fatima hand, it is a Middle-East protection symbol!

Lots of austrian crystals. Big in the 50's and the 90's. Quite pricey in the 90's. Long strands were in style in the 90's. Double strands in the 50's.
  • *check under the cardboard inserts* in the jewelry store boxes. Sometime things get stuck/ stored in layers for security.
  • I think you need to start making 3 piles for your jewelry. The costume jewelry, the good stuff, and the stuff that puts a twinkle in Melissa’s eyes. It’s so apparent to us watching at home which items she secretly wants and sometimes we cringe inside when Alex misses the signs. 🙄😊

I never hesitate to buy jewelry with shorter chain because I can add extender chain. I often buy jewelry from estate sales if the findings or spacer beads, stone beads etc are in good shape or unusual. I take it home clean and disassemble it and reuse the pieces in jewelry I make. Sometimes I like to use beads you can't buy in a store or online

Costume jewelry all the way up to the 80s and 90s is selling really well right now. The good costume jewelry. Sarah Coventry is one of the ones to watch for when you go to a sale

I love these box openings, it's so exciting to see what treasures you find! Years ago I went to antique shows and would buy a bag of old jewelry. I would spend hours looking at every piece and would end up with black hands but I would have so much fun looking through and cleaning all the nice finds. 🥰🥰🥰
