As American workers’ burnout and stress are at an all-time high, employers invent new ways to recruit, hire, and keep qualified workers. Growing ranks of businesses are now offering a flexible, four-day workweek. The movement is also gaining traction overseas as countries and major companies like Microsoft and Unilever test shorter workweeks.» Subscribe to NBC News: nbcnews.to/SubscribeToNBC

All I can say is THANK GOD. The burn out you feel in the 5 day work week means you spend the ENTIRE weekend just recovering.

So cool to see the four-day workweek getting traction & bearing out what they've been saying for near fifty years: that the increased productivity from a rested & engaged staff will better than balance out.

Me and my co workers talk about this all the time lol . The work days needs to be revamped we been following this system too long it’s time for a change ❤️

A four day work week is a great thing. Flexible start and end times should be seriously considered if possible as well. Since working in a job that allows both, I feel like I’ve regained the ability to have a life and keep really good energy to put into my work. On my first day my boss said to me “give me 40 hours of good work a week…I don’t care when or what days you chose to do it.” Our team hasn’t seen a single person leave for another job (other than for promotion) in 4 years. And as far as I can tell, no one is planning on leaving anytime soon.

Just signed a job offer with a company that has a four day work week. Super excited. The five day work week was a result of the FLSA of 1938, but with the advancements of technology, it just seems unnecessary to work five days per week.

This is just one of many things we have been following for decades just because this is how things were done for generations. We don't stop and think if it really is necessary or beneficial to continue doing things the old way just because that's how it was done for a long time. It's good to see companies and people realising a 5 day traditional work week isn't the only way to achieve the same level of productivity, if anything exorbitant working hours, as an example in Japan shows it only leads to even more problems and lower productivity.

Aka humans realized during the pandemic we want more out of life than working till we die…what a concept

From my experience as a retail worker with a chaotic schedule, weeks with around ~32 hours were so much less tiring and stressful than my typical 40 hour week.

My European family had way less stress working less hours... its so important. Money isn't number one, but I know we have to survive until things change. Much love 💛
  • I'm a small business owner and this makes sense. Companies lose money when employees show up stressed out and overworked. Giving people time off improves performance. I've never seen good performance from pushing the traditional 40 hour work week. My employees perform way better on a 20-30 hour work week.

If only the USPS could figure out how to implement this. People are getting over worked especially your mail carriers. They’re forced into 12hr days for 6 days a week.

My mom was a single mother and had a job with the state. At one point they let her have off Wednesdays. It was such a wonderful benefit to us kids and her as well. I loved coming home knowing she had been there cooking and cleaning making that mom magic lol.

A 4 day work week is awesome. especially if pay isnt reduced. This would go a long way for people to rest recoup and recover. The pandemic showed the world one thing... we have been living for our jobs with little to no reward and not for the betterment of our lives. As for the workweek, We tend to think of our time off as a 3 day weekend when its not. We dont have friday off so its actually not a 3 day weekend, in reality its a 2 day weekend. 5 days of work and 2 days off. To have an extra full day off enables our bodies to truly reach the level of rest and restoration it needs to recover after long hours of work and stress. And work is tough and stressful, even with jobs that are enjoyable. Its the simple fact that when your body needs a break, it cant get it, because your forcing upon it a task. As an example. your a computer technician, you basically sit down all day. some people may think thats and easy job... NO!!! its the exact opposite of what you think. A body sitting in one place for hours day after day takes an incredibly bad toll on ones Health, ones limbs, blood circulation, blood pressure, build up of plaque in all your vessels an arteries. swelling ,onto diabetes and other major ailments. Not because your eating bad, but simply because you sitting . and when the body screams for a break, either movement or even to lay down for a spell, your forcing it otherwise till its breaking point leading to greater problems down the road. Weight gain as well. A 4 day work week gives the body just enough additional time to mend itself in such a stressed situation. moreover, that period of replenishment means that your time back at work is that more productive, and creative. lastly.. all this also applies to the company owners. which lightens their stress as well. And lets not forget working from home. The one God send of the pandemic. as many companies realized just how much money could be saved by reducing office site locations. millions retained by the elimination of the office site. and only keeping regional sites special company held meetings.

I used to work as retail manager AND a Pharmacy technician, now I'm working for a tech company and it's probably the best decision I have ever made. Better pay, Better work life, just a better sense of health and stability <3 there's companies out there that ACTUALLY care's about their workers
  • Incredible! My new job has done this since I started and I can say I’ve never been happier, 1 day to rest/relax/personal time, 1 day for chores & weekly tasks, then 1 day for creativity/building a new skill. Literally feels so much better, I think every workplace should do this.

This is one of the reasons why there is such a high turnover rate in Social Service jobs. I had a job as a Case Manager in a homeless shelter. I was told that, because I was a "essential worker", I would not get any holidays off.
  • We should all work the same number of days as Congress, and get half of their perks!
  • @lostbandit2476
This is for people who are on salary. Everyone else your pay doesn't go down. But your paycheck will. Unless you work a extra 2 hours a day.
  • @CEA9234
About time. 5 days of 8 hours minimum each day. That’s a lot of sitting and stressing when you consider people do this for years of their life. Literally we devote a part of our lives to earn income. So its not crazy to scale back to 4 days. Seems more sustainable long term for mental and physical health. We werent made to be work robots. People have family and health to take care of.
