Haulover Inlet in Florida is a popular spot for experienced boaters seeking a thrill. Known for its challenging conditions and strong currents, the inlet connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway and is famous for its rough waves and strong winds, which can make boating hazardous. Despite the risks, many boaters are drawn to the inlet's challenging conditions and the opportunity to navigate through it.

SAD day for this captain. UNEXPECTED turn that could have led to injuries and loss of the boat.I'd appreciate if YOU could share advice on how to handle such situations, to assist our large audience in potential future incidents. Thank you in advance !!
  • Anchor from the bow. Keep bow pointed into surf. Have suffucient anchor line...80 to 100', so his anchor has a chance to deploy in the sand. Do not have your line tied/spliced as it appears. That poor guy! He has no clue who to do.

The tow boat has an anchor off the bow while hooking up. Good example of the proper way to do things.

At least nobody was hurt, except the guy sitting on the deck who looked checked out. They're lucky to have gone up on a sand beach instead of into rocks that would have caused serious damage and potential loss of life. Credit to the Captain for continuing to stay present and observant, trying to think of solutions. IMO I would have set the anchor earlier, off the bow, and held it until it caught, which clearly is challenging in soft sand. As soon as the motor was dead, I would have pulled out lifejackets and insisted everyone have them on. Otherwise, I don't think there's much he could have done.

There are worst places to end up than that sandy beach friends.

Some deck hand he has there, they sure know how to keep a boat seat warm.

I'm watching the pedestal seats in the beginning. Was sure they were about to snap off just wallowing around. Plus, is an older boat with an inboard. I'm guessing not a lot of upkeep was done.

I never find joy watching anyone go thru that. The tow bill is equal to the maintenance he'll need to have done to get his boat able to run securely again. That's his pride and joy and I hope it's running soon again.

The cap had a long time to throw an anchor and have not done so. He landed like half a mile south from the inlet. He had plenty of time.

Gotta drop that anchor as soon as motor died. And for God's sake, never anchor so the stern is taking the waves!!!
  • @Gerry-K
If the Muppet had anchored the bow into the waves, He wouldn't have been pushed onto the beach.
  • @mustangcircut
Agreed with anchor drop from the bow!! As for frustration he was, who wouldn’t? The fact that it looks like he kept his cool and stayed with the boat and tried like hell to get it turned into the waves I commend him. Looked like a soft beach and everyone walked away. Seeing others they have not a care in the world. Great video!

Happened to me but lucky I was in a 15' jon boat, on a lake.
  • @LUVUTV
The video is so beautiful, the waves are great, thank you for the video
