Saint John's Eve (La Noche de San Juan), starting at sunset on 23 June, is the eve of the feast day of Saint John the Baptist. This is one of the very few feast days marking a saint's birth, rather than their death. The Gospel of Luke (Luke 1;26–37, 56–57) states that John was born six months before Jesus; therefore, the feast of John the Baptist was fixed on 24 June, six months before Christmas. In the Roman calendar, 24 June was the date of the summer solstice, and Saint John's Eve is closely associated with Midsummer festivities in Europe. Traditions are similar to those of May Day and include bonfires (St. John's fires), feasting, processions, church services, and gathering wild plants.

The city welcomes summer in Málaga with a magical festival: the night of San Juan (la Noche de San Juan), which is celebrated on the night of June 23. During this festival, it is traditional to go to the beaches to light bonfires and enjoy different traditions.

Around midnight the rituals begin. Among the most deep-rooted traditions is that of dipping one's feet in the seashore. It is also the right time to light the bonfires. One of the classic elements that are burned in these bonfires in Málaga are the 'júas': dolls made of rags or other materials, usually decorated with symbols, which are lit.

The beaches of La Malagueta or La Misericordia are some of those that host concerts and special activities, such as fireworks displays. But other beaches further away from the city centre are also chosen by the people of Málaga to spend this night.

Málaga no debería hacer publicidad de sus ciudades poque no le hace falta y se evitaría la llegada de indeseables como está pasando en muchas otras. Estamos muy tranquilos como estamos y no necesitamos más gente. Gracias.
