  • Nothing makes your week better than a little Diagnose Dan
  • In 10 hrs 33k views means everyone is missing you man, please please come often and we miss you. A very insightful and resourceful channel.
  • We need more of your videos. You keep us waiting for so long. Kindly make videos more often.
  • an old Aston-Martin mechanic here--- good diagnostics procedures--- was always told "cause-symptom-consequence" on faults--- also also told-- "Fix car-- Fix customer"
  • Diag Dan's a fair guy, he doesn't suffer fools, but he's a nice genuine chap.
  • I'm surprised there wasn't a boost pressure code. My bet is that issue was there before the previous dpf failed and forced regens with too much soot in the old dpf cracked it. Cleaning is always better than forcing a regen when the pressure is too high! Sometimes people reset the learned soot values to make the vehicle regen when in reality it shouldn't be doing.

My left ear enjoyed this video!
  • Great job. Your diagnostic approach - determine what's wrong as well as what caused it and not just fix what may be broken - is outstanding. Truly the sign of a professional and someone who is customer focused. Thanks for sharing the video. Once again, Dan not only diagnosed it but also provided important educational advice. Looking forward to your next video.
  • Check out some of O RILEYS AUTOS work on DPF fixes Dan.Job like this one are his bread and butter.
  • I had exactly the same thing on a BMW X3 I bought cheap. Local mobile mechanic replaced DPF, it blocked again so old owner took it to the main dealer who said the turbo was dead and the head needed a lot of work. I found the hole, cut off the retaining band where it mounted to a hard pipe and pushed it on another 25mm. New Miclaor clamp and it was as good as new. The boost pipe had been rubbing on the coolant fan for some time.

My eyes are drawn to what looks like a weird S-shaped windscreen crack.
  • When I was stationed in Darmstadt Germany ( 1984 -1987 ) I had the opportunity to visit Holland. I found it to be a very beautiful country and everyone was very kind .
  • As an aviation mechanic , it was very refreshing to see an auto technician use a logical approach to diagnosing the cause of a problem and not just the symptoms. I do have a question for you though. Why did you not look for TSB's on the symptoms before you started all the troubleshooting? It seems that checking for the TSB first could have helped you reach the solution faster.
  • a very useful tool for turbo engines is the smoke machine. so many dpf issues are due to cracked hoses, leaking injector seals at the rocker cover, etc. we got one recently after watching @Orileysautos videos, and it has really saved us hours of leak testing.

Dan, your customers must be very lucky people - thanks to your experience and systematic approach they save lots of time and money! And, I used to repair starter motors and alternators for about 10 years and the soot, mixed with engine oil, would never leave my fingers🙂- I had no time to put the rubber gloves on 😁
  • Because of you I came to live in Netherlands and now fixing cars. You were huge inspiration for this to happen.
  • Be safe Dan, make sure your shop has STRONG ventilation system to push out these bad airs. Just want to make sure you are healthy so you can continue teaching us 👍

Great video, Dan. I no longer am in the car repair industry, but I really enjoy your videos. Where i used to work, our "bread and butter" was mostly maintenance repairs and not a lot of diagnostic repairs. The little bit we did involved a lot of guesswork. I truly enjoy your thorough processes to find and fix issues.
  • Had exactly the same part of the hose crack on my Outlander. Didn't get as far as having a blocked DPF because it started to go in limp home mode every time I gave it full throttle. Glad I got mine sorted early on as I know just how expensive a DPF is! Nice one Dan.
