Nice video 👍🏼 I have a few Camponotus colonies going, they are Consobrinus & Aeneopilosus. They are great. Agree with your tips, especially the one about not disturbing them to much.

That's some nice footage of the queen helping the worker out of the cocoon! Much like people, because they are eusocial, they are quite helpless before adulthood!

carpenter ants are adorable, especially the queens!
  • I caught a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus queen a few weeks ago in my basement. I didn't expect her to be fertile, but I set her up in a test tube anyway. I left for a trip soon after, and when I got back I had forgotten that I had her until I was cleaning and found the test tube with the queen alive and with a pile of eggs and larvae.

I have 2 C. pen, a C. novaeboracensis, and an unknown small-medium black ant queen. The novaeboracensis is my second-caught and my favorite, she lays many eggs and takes good care of herself and her workers! One of the C. pen queens' workers stuck a cricket leg on the cotton and it caused mold to grow :( but the novaeboracensis chewed on the cricket leg like a drumstick
