John Daly wins the Open Championship at St Andrews with drama coming from Costantino Rocca, who needed a birdie at the last to tie Daly. When he duffed his pitch into the Valley of Sin, all hope seemed lost.

Yet using a putter from 65 feet, Rocca knocked his ball up the steep slope and then into the hole. He sank to his knees and slammed the ground with his fists in sheer jubilation. “I had no putt, but it went in,” said the Italian.

Rocca was spent even before the four-hole play-off, which Daly won by five strokes after the Italian took three to get out of the Road Hole Bunker allowing Daly to receive a heart-felt ovation at the last. “The names that are on here,” he marvelled while looking at the Claret Jug, “it’s unbelievable to be a part of it.”

As much as Daly is a rough and wild party man he still has deep respect for the legacy of golf
  • @stevecarter2966
Daly had as much talent as anyone who has ever played the game.
  • Daly passed by Tiger on the range still practicing. He said why are you still out here? Tiger said "If I played like you I wouldn't have to practice".
  • 2 majors and Snubbed by the elitists for the ryder cup... I love jd he's a legend.

That Reebok jumper looks like something I'd wear down to the car wash
  • How JD handled the media during the 150th Open at St Andrew’s shows the integrity of a true gentleman. A golfing legend: John Daly.

Jack taking 4shots out of a bunker makes me feel like a good golfer

This made me appreciate John Daly a GREAT deal more than I had. (having only started playing in '99 at the age of 52)

Best hands in the history of golf. Period. And for him to hit it 350 with that technology is incredible.

If I was a pro golfer, winning at St Andrews Old Course would be the ultimate goal.
  • Rocca put on one hell of a fight in regulation... a ridiculous up and down with a putter from the road, and a hell of a putt on 18 from the dump, right after flubbing an easy chip shot just to keep in it. Congrats to DALY, LEGEND.

Man Arnold Palmer, what a gem. You can hear the pain in his voice knowing that he wouldn’t be playing anymore.
  • I hated golf when I was a kid. I thought it was boring. Now I love to watch it. Haven't played yet but I will soon. I wish I could go back and play a game with my Dad. He loved golf. My Dad has passed a few years back but I think of him when watching these videos and when I get to see a game on TV. Thank you for putting this video up. My Dad would have enjoyed this very much.
  • 12:33 "... But there is no doubt that a highly lucrative future in professional golf is already assured" - such omniscience
  • AND I WON'T TO THANK ALL THE HARD WORKING PEOPLE THAT KEEP OUR GOLF COURSES IN BEAUTIFUL AND GREAT SHAPE THANK YOU
  • John Daly might have been a wild one but I wish there was anybody half as entertaining as he was these days ! A lovely Guy on and off the course ! A true one off and Legend in his own right..
