Wife said this is much faster and easier than when she and her brothers would have to skip school to cut seed by hand. The progress in the industry is amazing.
  • Brings back memories of hauling spuds out of Washington State and Oregon and Taber, Alberta, back in the late 90's and 2000, to various McCain plants on the prairies, for Westcan Transport, in Super-B hopper trailers. They had a 13 year-old Chinese girl in Taber, loading us... she could get us within only a few kg's either way of our legal weight! A mean gal on the stinger!

Thank you sir. An informative and entertaining video. As well you explained each operation and why it was done ! Well done ! Alex

I saw another planter video recently that used a smaller whole potato as seed. Interesting difference in the choice. You will get a lot more mileage out of the available resources. However, it appears a lot more handling is required and that cost money and time also. I do not know if different variety was involved but the seed planting and the land type was the same.

Very interesting, what an operation. Got me hungry for a baked potato 🥔.
  • I buy bags of potatoes at the grocery store, and I often forget to thank the growers of these amazing spuds and how hard the laborer's work. As far as the laborers are concerned, they seem very serious about their job and appear dedicated to their work. I think that they should also be called by name, instead of "they". Excellent video though!

This process is very easy and efficient by using machinery rather than cutting by hand. And your talking is very informative.

Thanks for sharing your operation. So amazing to see how it’s done. I grew up around corn, beans and wheat but that’s nothing compared to your potato process.
  • Your video and answers to the various comments fill in a lot of questions I have had in regards to potato production. What is the spacing of the cut potatoes for planting (that’s probably in another of your videos, right?)? Thanks! 😊
  • @stevenhorne5089
That's a unique way to get the best utilization of your trucks. A lot of work to get it into that configuration though.
  • @wolfman266
What's difference from whole potatoes? As far as I know, the one without cutting is more disease resistance than this ! ❤
  • @koryleague8833
Very interesting process. You said in another video, that only two of your trucks have wet kits. How do you run your beds on the other trucks?
  • @casey5397

  • @robertmarino2158
I enjoy the operation of how spuds are cut for planting, you do an excellent job explaining what is going on , stay safe , how many generations of doing this farming ? What special talent , team work !
  • I learned a lot from this video and going through the comments. Look forward to more. After the seed potato is cut is each piece going to sprout or is it a percentage that you count on?

I am liking the content thus far. When I start watching a new channel, I always start from the beginning. It shouldn't take long, as I don't watch the 'Shorts' video's.
