All The Times We've Heard Chris Pratt Sounding Like Mario So Far

Published 2023-03-17
He doesn't sound anything like Mario?? Really??

When Chris Pratt and co were announced as the cast for the SMB movie, people were outrageous. Personally, I always thought they had something up their sleeves, I doubted they were chosen just for the sake of having ''A-list'' actors and actresses (Miyamoto wouldn't have allowed that), and lo and behold, a year after the announcement, we've seen countless of ads, leaks and trailers that give us a much clearer view of their performance. Charlie Day does sound a hell lot like Luigi, Jack Black threatens the audience with an imposing, almost tyrannical representation of Bowser, Keegan Michael Key cheers us with a Toad that surprisingly does NOT sound annoying to our ears, and so on.
However, for many others, that's not the case with Chris Pratt, the voice for Mario, and I am here to say that's straight up BS, so I decided to compile most, if not all, of the clips in which Christ Pratt sounds remarkably like Mario.
Some insist Chris doesn't sound anything like him, some others insist his work is ''mediocre'', and so on and so forth, in other words, you got people shitting all over him, and it needs to stop, not just because of the ''harshness'' in tself but due to the huge amount of denial and cynicism that they harbor, it's insane.

I like how Chris Pratt is mixing both the higher pitched sounds with the blooklyn accent

0:23 That might be the most accurate Mario voice I’ve heard from Chris. He’s doing better at that voice.

im so glad people are giving chris pratt a redemption arc for his mario voice. it was very sceptical before at first because of only two voice lines, but now his mario voice is keeping up the movie hype

His "Luigi, are you in there?" in one of the newest TV spots is also nice to hear. Just like how Charlie Day's voice sounds very different from Luigi's video game voice, Pratt's so far fits Mario just as fine.

“I’m not afraid, I’ll do anything for my brother” was one of the best

0:17 Even though it’s nearly drowned out, this “wahoo” sounds pretty accurate to Mario’s in-game wahoo!

People were being so annoying with the criticism towards his voice in the beginning. It’s okay to dislike his performance, but people were giving legitimately unfair and biased complaints about it, like him “lacking enthusiasm” (which isn’t true) or sounding different from Charles Martinet’s voice (which isn’t inherently a bad thing). Though he wouldn’t have been my first choice to cast as Mario, I think Pratt is going a perfectly fine job, and I’m glad most people are past the premature hate that followed the first trailer.
  • I think the true culprits are the ones who put the trailers together, it seems like they took the worst of Chris Pratt's takes for them, because he actually perfomed pretty good as Mario.
  • I can never not lose my mind at "ThaT'S a LiTTLe mushrOOm mAn, a LiTtLe mUShroOM man, tALkiNG to Me!" just the way he makes his voice crack is so perfect

I like how the intro to the movie actually shows that Mario does the accent as an act for the commercial and the more Chris Pratt-y voice is his natural voice.
  • Honestly, there were several points during the movie where I forgot Chris Pratt was Mario. He sounded way more authentic than during the trailer
  • I agree with you all the way!!! I can hear Chris Pratt putting a Brooklyn Mario voice ever since the teaser tralier. I wish they would give him a chance and just accept it. I love his Mario voice!!!

When I first saw he trailers, I thought Chris Pratt was gonna do an awful job. But when I watched the movie, I forgot that he voiced Mario and did not sound bad at all. Chris actually did a good job

Movie’s out. As I expected, Chris did a great job. I will admit, I was somewhat skeptical, but unlike most I was waiting for the movie to see for myself if he’d do it well, instead of prematurely hating on him. And he did. I didn’t even think of Chris Pratt while listening to Mario for most of the movie. It literally went to the back of my mind after the first few minutes of him talking. Great job Chris, it was a fantastic movie.

The voice is growing on me the more I hear it, but I have noticed (or maybe I just think I noticed) that we've heard Chris the least in all the trailers compared to the other characters.

Well, he sounds like Mario the whole movie. Lol
