HI, i'm dean wolfe, classic prog rock guitar teacher here and I am reacting to Opeth Moon Above, Sun Below. It's part of my react to modern prog series- as a 70s fan, i didn't keep up with prog rock for almost 30 years and now i am catching up. Boy did i miss out on lots of great prog- nice to be catching up.

Maybe you'd like "Lovelorn Crime" from their latest record.

Great song. I stopped listening to Opeth before they shifted to their clean era. Looks like I need to catch up on them.

Well, here I am 9 months after you reacted to Opeth. Back then I was only listening to Tool reactions. I had heard 1 Opeth reaction elsewhere, but due to growling I didn't want to click on any others, and then as time went by someone told me there were a lot of clean vocal tracks... Thank goodness I paid attention. So, here I am circling back to your older Opeth reactions. I have of course since heard this one, but still wanted to come here, listen and 'like'. ❤️ Next stop.. Blackwater Park. Yeah, I know there's growling, but I'll deal with it. 😉
  • From their latest album, the absolute MASTERPIECE is Next of Kin, brilliant song. Also check out Ghost of Perdition, from the more metal era where he switches between growls and cleans, and comes up with beatiful and complex acoustic guitars. Nice one to get used to the death metal excerpts, and one of the most proggy of them.

This is just a masterpiece. I just love Mikaels clean vocals and the harmonies. Not that fond of his growls. I don't mind harsh vocals in general but like every vocal I like some and some I dont.

One of my absolute favorite songs from Opeth, and albums too! Came out at a really tough part of high school and I just meshed with this so much. So quintessentially Opeth too!

From what I understand, Michael Ackerfeldt is a huge Prog Rock fan (Gentle Giant, Magma, etc ).

I think the shark needs a puff as well🥳 Wonderful reaction! Opeth has been one of my favourite bands since I saw them live for the first time in the Black Metal capital of the world, Bergen Norway, in 2008 I think it was. Just an amazingly good performance. I think it was after the release of Watershed, the last album where growls were a part of the package. I’ve seen them a couple of times since that legendary concert and they still ROCK hard🤘 Speaking about the Watershed album; you should definetly do a reaction from that album. So many epic songs there, and the production is just STELLAR. I would love to se you react to Heir Appetant, but I guess anything from that MASTERPIECE will do...🙏🏻

We need more opeth , i keep coming back to your video Outstanding
  • Id recommend Opeths song "Deliverance", Deliverance has some growls but it builds up into many melodic sections and the last few minutes of the track is legendary.

Opeth has been my favorite band since Blackwater Park, so very nearly 20 years now. Watching them transition from black metal to 70s prog rock has been amazing. I like to think that this is what would happen if King Crimson (Bruford era) and Camel (which Opeth blatantly ripped off for a few of my favorite songs) had a lovechild. Just so good.
