  • Maaan I pretty much gave up calling out the disconnects behind the condensing units. The builders throw a fit every time and I haven't met a single city inspector who cares about it so I just stopped notating it on my reports. Three more things I call out with condensing units: 1. Under the edge of the roof or worse, a valley, and no diverter flashing or gutter to prevent that water from falling in. 2. Dryer vents terminating within about 6' of the condensing unit. I've done resale homes with those fins choked with lint because of the proximity to the dryer vent. 3. Make-up air intake above the condensing unit, ESPECIALLY when that intake is tucked up under the eave of a 1-story home. Then you have the AC sucking in the hot air the condensing unit blows upward making the AC work against itself. I call that out on pre-drywall jobs all the time and nobody ever fixes it. Awesome vid as usual Mr. Renaldo.

Very good video. Good reason why for expensive things that can affect ones life, safety and property should get a third party inspector after major repairs or home improvements are done.

Thank you for the heads-up while I build my own home. Good video!!
  • On the minimum and maximum comment, the minimum rating is the wire ampacity rating and the maximum is the size breaker. If a unit only says max fuse than it has to be a fused disconnect, if it says max overcurrent or breaker than it can be a pull-out disconnect.

Thanks for the info. Is there a max height for an electrical outlet in a hallway or closet?

What is the concern if I have condensers that are on bare ground? I make sure to keep debris and mulch away from the vase as much as possible, but definitely agree it should be on a platform.
