Bat Out of Hell is the only record in the top ten selling albums of all time where all of the lyrics and music were written by just one person.
  • Top show again - not listened to the album for ages. Dug it out again and it is just good fun.
  • The day Meat Loaf died I played Heaven can Wait and teared up. Just beautiful..

One of my favorite albums. 7. For Crying Out Loud 6. All Reved Up With No Place To Go 5. Heaven Can Wait 4. Bat Out Of Hell 3. Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad 2. You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth 1. Paradise By The Dashboard Light My one is special to me because I lost my girlfriend a year ago. That was one of her favorite songs. And she would sing the female part and the surprising part was that she knew the lyrics lol. It will always be her song. RIP Susan 10/21/1964 - 09/11/2021

That Kerrang poll that Steven talks about was printed in an early issue of Kerrang. I still have a copy of it somewhere. Kerrang was originally a one off Heavy Metal special from the writers of Sounds. It covered a very broad spectrum of metal, very little of which would be classed as such now: Angus Young on the cover and features Motorhead, Girlschool, UFO, Saxon, Kiss, Trust, Michael Schenker, Wild Horses, ZZ Top, Pat Benatar, Styx, Vardis, Ted Nugent, Blackfoot, Graham Bonnet, Ronnie Montrose, Rose Tattoo and Pete Frame Deep Purple "Family Tree".
  • Two out of three understand the genius of this album. There is nothing else quite like it. Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman themselves could never quite recapture that magic.

This has always been my default album to play when nothing else comes to mind. Loved it back in the day and still absolutely does it for me. It is so over the top and extreme musically and lyrically but pure excitement for me and will never tire of it.

Am I too late to be the first to say that following the video with Pete and Simon who both really like the album and Steven who really isn`t too keen that oh well `Two Out of Three Ain`t Bad`. Sorry guys šŸ˜‰
  • @SJHUE
Great video guys, Pete in particular made the point about having to have been there. It does help. Looking back most of my favourite albums are those I have heard bit by bit. A radio play here, buying a single there, catching a live performance of one of the albums tracks on television there etc. I bought the first three singles from Bat Out of Hell before I bought the album. The first two singles were both edited as was the B side `For Crying Out Loud`. First heard the entire album when my brother came home on leave from the Army and he`d taped the album onto a blank cassette from one of his mates. Hearing the whole thing, especially the longer version of `Two Out of Three` and `For Crying Out Loud` was very special. I think the bit by bit approach makes the overall experience more satisfying and enjoyable. For me anyway.
  • Once as a Canadian visiting Britain I saw a guy in a pub cover the title track with only a drum machine and guitar...and it worked amazingly well! Rundgren's guitar parts are scorching and define that amazing song.

It has great sentimental feelings for me , I bought it when it first came out , and couldn't stop playing it for weeks on end. Thanks for the review Pete, Steven, and Simon , and the banter is brilliant . They need to find an album from the 1970's that appeals to Steven.
  • 'Jubelale' - a festive winter ale from Deschutes brewery 6.7%. Purchased the LP once, cassette twice, and CD at least three times. This is one of those albums that contributed to my music related hearing loss. 7) Heaven can wait 6) Two out of three ain't bad 5) For crying out loud 4)You took the words... 3) All revved up... 2) Paradise... 1) Bat out of hell R.I.P. Mr Aday.
  • Now that is an assignment for me. I haven't listened to this album for ages. I have to go back and listen to it after this episode.
  • Hello guys. Iā€™m having a beer from Wiseacre Brewery in Memphis Tennessee called Tiny Bomb. American Pilsner 4.5ABV. Cheers!! I never was a big fan of Meatloaf the artist. Love meatloaf the food though. I do own it just because it is a legendary album. My ranking goes like this #7 -For Crying Out Loud #6- Heaven Can Wait #5- All Reved Up #4- 2 Out of 3 Ainā€™t Bad #3- You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth #2- Paradise By the Dashboard Lights #1- Bat Out of Hell Great show gentlemen. See you next time.

Steven you made a very good point regarding the song titles. They are all everyday phrases/sayings and it was very clever the way Steinman used them on this album.
  • @MetalPersonJ
Still hoping to get Favorite/Least Favorite for Helloween before the year's end. Keep up the good work guys!

When `Bat Out of Hell` was released as a single there was a phone number in a music paper that if you called that number you could listen to the song over the phone! I would not have been given permission to ring the number by my parents so I did it when they weren`t around!
  • @iluvpepi
The R&B artists that you mentioned are great.

One evening in the early 1980`s I was walking into town and just on the edge of town a biker came past on a very big bike and `Heaven Can Wait` was blasting out of his vehicle from somewhere. Think that was the first time I`d heard music coming out of a motorcycle? Made me smile.
