I'm a retired police chaplain who has worked quite a few suicide crime scenes. I've always been impressed by attention to detail the Dragnet producers got right on the radio & tv shows. Most other law enforcement shows were so badly and incorrectly constructed that they were an embarrassment to professional police officers. Dragnet, on the other hand, was spot-on from the detectives' interview methodology to their forensic techniques. Jack Webb loved LAPD and he made darned sure they were portrayed fairly. Perhaps that's why he received full police honors when he reached the end of his watch.

This series has class. They are worth re-mastering. Timeless.

This makes me want to know more about Jack Webb. Unfortunately the names were changed to protect the innocent.
  • I got a big smile on my face when I heard Jack Webb say, "it was Sunday, March 9th" in the beginning because I was born on Sunday, March 9th, (but in 1980), and my middle name is Marie! 😄

It's interesting the way they go about photographing the crime scene so carefully - it makes perfect sense that they would be so careful and methodical, but I've never seen the actual process.

Thanks for uploading this. These old shows are a real part of American history.

This episode was on radio. I see this with episodes of other old tv shows, if the show began in radio, they would "recycle" / recreate them for tv. Btw -- I 💓💓 Dragnet!

I could not imagine Barney Phillips (Joe Friday's partner Sgt. Ed Jacobs) being a serious character, but Jack Webb's direction made it work.

Jack Kruschen and Harry Bartell; yet 2 more radio greats doing gigs on TV.  Both of these guys continued radio as well, although the real good shows were dwindling fast by the mid 50's. Thanks for the upload.

Since 1933 the police have had the means to do GSR testing. In the 50's they did parafin testing. Now they use a faster/more accurate spectroscope detector. This simple Gun Shot Residue test would have shown if the husband and/or wife had recently shot a gun.

Friday's partner wearing glasses played a character on a Twilight Zone episode. He had a big eye in the middle of his head if I remember correctly.

I am so glad that these older Dragnet episodes have been uploaded. I am disappointed, thou, that many of the original Dragnet episodes have been removed from YouTube. Some claim copy right issues.  That makes no sense.  Does any one how to g et around that so that some of the really good episodes can be brought back?  Thanks a bunch.
  • What's nice about this show is that they use regular people. No models like detective shows now.

A model 1911 to the melon. I'd think there should be brains all over the kitchen. :-)
