He has been king and slave, hero and villain, renowned throughout the movie-going world for the heroic figures he played during his early years in Hollywood: Moses, Ben-Hur, El Cid and Michaelangelo. In a wide range of roles, from classical to futuristic, he has shown himself a consummate actor. But Charlton Heston has always been more than a star.

Although he is a private man, he has often appeared to be a very public one, willing to speak up on issues he believes in–however controversial they may be. Includes scenes from The Greatest Show On Earth, The Ten Commandments, The Big Country, Ben-Hur, Will Penny, Soylent Green, and Planet of the Apes.

It's not that they don't just make movies like these anymore, it's that they don't have amazing men like Mr. Heston to play the roles anymore. Much respect. <3

Ben Hur alone puts him up there as the greatest for me !!! He must be in most of all the scenes in Ben Hur,imagine how difficult that is to do !!!

Great actor, and VERY handsome man, but what I appreciate most is his loyalty to his wife and his family. I love his movies. The Ten Commandments, and Ben-Hur are my favorites. May his memory be blessed!
  • I saw Benhur as a young girl and the impact it had on me was for a life time.

He doesn't require any make up to play a King's role. Respect for a Legend.
  • Seeing these wonderful videos about screen actors of a bygone era demonstrates the contrast with today’s movies. Heroic roles and players are pitifully few. Heston, Cooper, Peck, all great actors.
  • One of the best there is! Still watching his movies today and still awed by his performances!

I met him once at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion a week before "Oscar" Monday. He was the President of the Academy This was in 1980s. My mother talked me into taking a free tour of this beautiful building!! I would have never done the tour if not for her cajoling me. I didn't recognize him at first but when he took off his sunglasses, WOW...THOSE BLUE EYES!!! His deep beautiful tan!! And his beautiful white teeth!! He shook my hand thanking me for taking the tour to my chagrin!! Silently hoping my mother would keep quiet about me not wanting to go on the tour to this beyond handsome man shaking my hand!! Although he was a senior citizen by then ,he really caught my attention in those 5 minutes and he was definitely a head turner !! I was a twenty something year old and I have met many actors growing up in Los Angeles yet I am still impressed by Mr Heston's physical appearance and those unusually blue eyes. When I met Tony Curtis on a set , he had the same unusual blue eyes too but Chuck still was more striking!!!

One of the greatest voice's ever !
  • Wonderful Actor and Great Gentleman. I was lucky enough to see him on stage in Manchester starring inCaine Mutiny Court Martial where he kindly signed his Book for me. He received great reviews for his performance and couple of years later was back on the Stage for the part of Sir Thomas Moore in A Man For All Seasons and afterwardsI was invited to remain in my seat till all other patrons had left. Mr Heston came from his Dressing Room and spent considerable time with My Wife & I chatting about his career, posing for photographs with me and signing many items for my collection. Be many years before a man of such stature will be on Film, Stage, TV etc., and the willingness to spend time with his admiters
