Vadam'ee: "There was only one ship." Regret: "One... Are you sure?" Vadam'ee: "Yes. They called it... The Pillar of Autumn." Mercy: "Why was it not destroyed with the rest of their fleet?" Vadam'ee: "It fled, as we set fire to their planet. I followed with all the ships in my command." Regret: "When you first saw Halo, were you blinded by its majesty?" Vadam'ee: "Blinded?" Regret: "Paralyzed? Dumbstruck?" Vadam'ee "No." Regret: "Yet the humans were able to evade your ships, land on the Sacred Ring, and desecrate it with their filthy footsteps!" Vadam'ee: "Noble Hierarchs, surely you must understand that once the Parasite attacked..." The Council rejects his statement with uproarus chatter. Mercy: "There will be order in this Council!" Truth waves his hand and calms Mercy, the room goes silent Truth: "You were right to focus your attention on the Flood, but this Demon, this ' Master Chief '..." Vadam'ee: "By the time I had learned of the Demon's intent... There was nothing I could do." The Council is in uproar, Tartarus chuckles. Regret: "Prophet of Truth, this has gone on long enough. Make an example of this bungler; the Council demands it." Truth silences Regret with a wave of the hand. Truth: "You are one of our most treasured instruments. Long have you led your fleet with honor and distinction. But your inability to safeguard Halo... Was a colossal failure." San'Shyuum Councilor: "Nay, it was Heresy!" The Council roars in agreement. Vadam'ee: "I will continue my campaign against the humans!" Truth: "NO! You will not." He looks to Tartarus, Tartarus barks harshly at his Jiralhanae to seize Vadam'ee. Truth: "Soon, the Great Journey shall begin. But when it does, the weight of your failure will stay your feet. And you shall be left behind."

Why does a theme corresponding with the trial and ultimate verdict of heresy sound so compelling, so inspiring?

Shipmaster: "this armor suits you. but it can not hide that mark." The Arbiter: "Nothing ever will..." Shipmaster: "these are my elites. their lives matter to me. your's does not..." The Arbiter: "that makes two of us."

RTAS: You are the arbiter, the will of the prophets. But these are MY elites; their lives matter to me, your's does not. THEL: That makes 2 of us. RTAS: Hmm.....

I've only only known a world without Halo 2 for a days as I was born only a month or so before it was released. But I wonder how people reacted to the depiction of The Covenant in this game. It's incredibly different to how they're shown in Halo CE, as they're pretty flushed out in 2 and you even manage to sympathize for one of them. I'd argue Halo 2 made The Covenant more less like a group of villains and more like a group who fights for what they believe in, just like everyone else in this endless universe.
