Idk of this is an unpopular opinion but i love the halo 4 covie ships, this little guy is cute and the RCS cruiser is really cool looking despite both being redesigned ccs's

I love how both in and out of the universe, the Zanar is literally the result of a production "oopsie". Out of Universe, 343 accidentally made the CCS too small in Halo 4's campaign, then made it a feature in Spartan Ops, while IN universe the assembly forges of the Covenant goofed up and crapped out a batch of cruisers that look like they got hit by Gru's shrink ray. It's silly but funny and I kinda like it. I also love the implication that Jul M'Dama basically tried to bulk out his fleet with these "pocket cruisers" because he was so broke-ass that he couldn't afford to nab enough actual cruisers. The scanners on the Infinity probably freaked out when first jumping into the Requiem system being like "Ah shit! He's got a shitton of CCS cruisers!" before looking at it for a second and being like "Oh, false alarm! It's just a bunch of CRS cruisers! Drop the frigates and let's mop up this mess!"

So this thing is essentially a glorified dropship dropship for dropping dropships where the typical, very vulnerable, dropship would get dropped shipping troops. The Zanar to frigate ratio is pretty spooky too.
  • @Spendingryan
You might allready know this, but i love that the frigate commonwealth is actually being decomissioned on the level "Boneyard" in halo reach, you can see the hull id on the front, i didn't see it right away at first.

This makes me want to start another starsector play through, just to appreciate the escort and support ships.

What I love is that the smallest warship in halo is still a little bit larger than the absolute largest of sea going warships in our world. Really puts the scale of halo in.... Well..... Scale
  • @inductivegrunt94
The little guy! They may be small, but they are powerful... enough for its role. Not a bad ship, but definitely a good escort ship and an adorable one thanks to its size.
  • @dangerbeans9639
I love how the covenant is so advanced but at the same time so completely incompetent. Their largest ship is just a scaled up CAS Carrier, and their smallest ship is just a downscaled CCS cruiser. They have no ability to innovate whatsoever.

Was about to say how this ship exemplifies covenant creativity But her origins are relatively interesting.

7:45 i think there might be an explanation for the "plasma laser" being similar to the beam rifle which fires a "particle beam," a similar contradiction. I believe what is going on is that there is a matter projectile, either solid or plasma in a firing chamber, with multiple lasers discharing into it from the back as a propelling mechanism. That was the lore for the beam rifle iirc, so id guess the plasma beam would be similar. In practice it may appear like a scaled up beam rifle, not too dissimilar to a pulse laser, but with the advantage of a hard impact weapon, which may be more effective at point defense than a regular laser which needs to heat its target to deal any damage
  • I’ve definitely come to have a greater appreciation for smaller more easily produced and maintained starships in fiction lately especially attack ships/frigates/corvettes like this
  • @isd_chimaera8335
I definitely like this ship, it fits a nice role that the covenant didn’t have. Thanks for another awesome video
  • @jakeyoung5079
I remember I 3d printed these for Halo Fleet Battles; they looked like a piece of rice lol
  • @believein1177
I love that they took a scaling error and made it a fun lore feature. It’s always fun when devs embrace stuff like that.
