Top 5 of 2022 - Gaerea - Mirage- Some of the most emotional metal I've ever heard. Ever. Blackened, groovy, evocative, I fucking adore this album. It's probably going in my Top Ten of All Time vault. Worm - Bluenothing- Psychadelic sludgy- black-death from beyond the farthest reaches of some long-forgotten realm. Intensely dynamic and when I want to go into a trance-like state I put on a good set of headphones and this album. Worm is consistently one of the hardest metal bands to describe to someone who isn't familiar and this album perpetuates their mystique. Sumerlands - Dreamkiller- What is there to say about this album that hasn't already been said? If you dig groovy oldschool metal then it legitimately doesn't get better than Dreamkiller. I was skeptical when I learned there would be a new vocalist on this album, but Brendan Radigan somehow maintains the magic from their previous stellar album. Temple of Void - Summoning The Slayer- Death/Doom riff buffet. Sounds like if old Bloodbath stayed together and just slowed their songs by 25%-50%. Revocation - Netherheaven- Outstanding tech/death from a band that seemingly can't miss. I feel like this album has it all: crunchy riffs, speed, groove, aggression, nothing was left on the table. Great album. Seriously, this album fucks.
  • Two records I'm surprised that no one mentioned: Chat Pile - God's Country (visceral sludge mixed with noise rock, suprisingly catchy) Cave In - Heavy Pendulum (great mix of metalcore, sludge, and space-y prog, their best release in a long time)
  • Love how you have different reviewers to cover the different subgenres!
  • Thou & Mizmor - Myopia is my clear favorite. Such a great Black Metal/Sludge collaboration
  • Every year the same thing happens: I already know and love Daniel’s picks, but Sarah’s picks are the ones I’m most excited to hear and discover.

My favourites of the year are White Ward - False Light Cult of Luna - The Long Road North Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture Wormrot - Hiss Dream Unending - Song of Salvation Voivod - Synchro Anarchy OFF! - Free LSD Elder - Innate Passage Cave In - Heavy Pendulum Earthless - Night Parade of 100 Demons
  • Sarah consistently outmetals everyone on earth and im here for it
  • The somewhat muted enthusiasm about the quality of metal releases this year at the beginning is a little surprising, given that this is a metal channel. I think we're in a golden age of metal. It's possible to make a top 50 for 2022 for metal alone and even album #50 would still be a banger.
  • Sarah has it going on. Even if I disagree with her picks, the passion and conviction she has is undeniable. It's obvious she is a fan with thoughtful insight. Kudos to Sarah 💪
  • Wake - Thought Form Descent I'm surprised not to have seen this on any album of the year lists. Maybe not as catchy as their previous album but still a very strong album from a brilliant up-and-coming band that keeps pushing it with musicality and creativity.
  • Killer lists everyone! The new "Undeath: It's Time...To Rise from the Grave" is a must listen back from May. I don't remember May either. Revocation's release definitely kicked ass too. Cheers! 🤘
  • It's the first time I check Bangers TV best of the year lists and I really appreciate different people talking about their favorite's for different subgenres.
  • This channel and obviously year end lists are so helpful in keeping up with music as well as discovering new or new to me bands. Thanks for all that you do!
  • Love how diverse everyone's picks are! A lot of cool albums to check out! 🤘
  • I don't care that it's an EP but Worm's Bluenothing was the best thing I heard this year. They added a splash of black to their death doom and it makes it so much darker and mysterious. Also face melting solos all over this thing. Municipal Waste - Electrified Brain is the album I listened to most this year. It's so much fun and so glad I got to catch them live this year. Schizophrenia - Recollections of the Insane another amazing thrash record, death thrash? The musicality on this thing is insane. Nite - Voices of the Kronian Moon. I had no idea this band existed but they popped up in one of my spotify daily playlists. Blackened trad metal wasn't something I knew I needed but I love this record. Pure Wraith - Incredible folk black metal from Indonesia. Excited to hear this Spiritworld album especially after the Power Trip comparison.

Became obsessed w Zeal and Ardor this year after seeing them open for Opeth/Mastodon late last year. What a sound.
  • @1968ott
I found Sprit World- Death Western a few weeks ago and I can't stop listening to it! Great album definitely #1 for me this year! Vio-Lence- Let the World Burn 🔥! My follow up.
  • My pick goes to Grima's "Frostbitten". Amazing atmospheric black metal.
