I hope the bridge collapse doesn't impact Stelantas' goal of reaching a 600 day supply of Hornets.

Went to a Toyota stealership last week to test drive a 4Runner. The service was HORRIBLE, and they kept trying to use fear tactics to get me to buy. I left. I'm not buying a 2021 4Runner with 85k for like $36k or more... no thanks.

Ray's imitation of the famous Struther Martin line from "Cool Hand Luke" was pretty darn good!

Absolutely disgusting! Last month shopped a hybrid SUV looked at Toyota, Lexus and Hondaā€¦aside from 1-1.5yr wait for the Toyota and Lexus hybrids, they were all above MSRP and Lexus was worst with up to $5K in BS dealer and hidden fees. No thanks! ended up with CRV hybrid at MSRP with stock on the lot! Toyota and Lexus totally turned me off!

Ray quoting the Warden in "Cool Hand Luke" is in fact cool!

As to the Ford super duty ā€œshortageā€. What happened to the like 40,000 they had sitting at the abandoned race track a couple years ago. Photos on line of the parking lots all over flowing with new trucks ā€œ waiting for chips and suchā€ ?
  • I buy NOTHING extra from dealers. I had a salesman slam his hands on his desk asking me WHY donā€™t I want to buy extras?!? Garber Chrysler in Saginaw, Mi

Never buy a service plan, just give luck a chance. I've been turning down those things on everything since 1988 and I've saved well over $100,000. The one time I got a home warranty they didn't pay when my AC went out.

The Toyota dealership in my small Southern Colorado town marks up every vehicle $1,500. And if you tell them you aren't interested in their Vin etching, they just laugh at you.

I was at a Toyota dealership yesterday looking at a 2024 Venza Limited. MSRP according to Edmunds was $45k, MSRP according to Toyota's website was $46k, while the dealership pulled some magic number out of where the sun don't shine of $48k! But that's not end of it. This particular dealership likes to tack on what they call "beaver benefits" at a cost of $1,615 for a "lifetime" of free oil changes, drive train warranty, etc. The Southeast Toyota Distributors had to get their hands in the pie as well, with $2,615 of add-ons that included $699 of ToyoGuard with included 2 "free" oil changes. The out the door price on a vehicle who's MSRP was $46 PER TOYOTA's website was $54,988!!!! THIS is why I don't buy Toyota's! Fortunately, Lexus doesn't do this. I ended up with a well equipped 2024 RX350 hybrid for a few thousand more.
  • I was shocked when I bought an old BMW for myself as I thought I would never own one of those ā€œmaintenance nightmaresā€œ. Butā€¦ My nearly 200,000 mile 330xi has been super enjoyable to drive and I have a local BMW expert who has been maintaining it for the past 20 years in just spectacular fashion. When my wife went to buy a new car we ordinarily wouldnā€™t have considered BMW but their ratings in consumer reports have been incredible so we took a chance. Not only is the X3 Nearly as fun as my small BMW to drive but the dealership experience (I am only talking about the maintenance department since we bought the car used) was so professional and above the board that for the first time in my life I am actually using the dealership for service. What a pleasant surprise!

Many of the Toyota dealerships in California bay area are sadly still marking up most of their cars. Was trying to get a new Tacoma and they are marking them up like crazy....
  • I'm fighting with Stellantis/Ram after the smog recall. It will not pass emissions after the update was done, very frustrating.
  • I bought an extended Nissan warranty and found out that it does not cover the major problem with cars over five years old. That is rust. Components that fail because of rust as a contributing factor is not covered. I found out that rust is a major factor in places that snow.
  • I work for Toyota and we are still in trouble with the EPA regarding our engine's.

A local Toyota dealer tried to tell me that the extended warranty product they were offering would save me tons of money int he long run, they went so far as to list the cost of the first 6 service intervals to try and demonstrate it. I refused the offer, and then I went in to get those services and the cost was substantially lower, like half.

Another example of giving dealers too much "power"/"rope" in handling the sales transactions, allowing the opportunity (corrupt dealerships) to take unfair advantage of the customer, thus tainting the reputation of the manufacturer. Im in support of all sales being through the manufacturer. Vehicle Pick-up, warranty, and service performed by the dealership.
  • @whodat90
I bet the dealers are thrilled about not being able to get/forced to accept more new inventory.
