She is literally the core of history that no one teaches or talks about in todays society. Shes worth more than coal or gold.

At the time of this interview, this 87 year old lady was still driving a semi truck. I don't think many people have caught she's a truck driver along with supporting rental properties and her own farm. She's put generations of her family through school while living in one of the most impoverished areas of the US. She's a perfect example of not lying down and letting the world beat you down.

“I live it just like I want to. If you don’t, you’ve wasted the whole thing.” Wow, I was not expecting her to play the guitar and sing so fast and loud! Awesome lady.

This deserves way more views. This woman IS the example of how to live a long, satisfying life.

2 quotes from her "I don't fool with nothing that cause me to have regrets." & "If someone gets in my way I just go around them." She's the true definition of a Matriarch. It would be an honor to meet her 💞

Holly Hunter was at my wife's family reunion while preparing for her role in the movie Harlan County War. She was living with Ruby at the time, learning the dialect. Ruby is a wonderful lady; she loves everyone that she meets.

She made my whole day! People judge this community so harshly, but every time I watch the old folks talk…I realized I missed out on so much. Bless her sweet soul. I wish her continued good health & prosperity!❤

As someone who lives in the Appalachian area, I can say that 90% of our old Appalachian women are like this. They really are a treasure and I don't think many people appreciate them.

she's stoic. She doesn't waste time in the affairs of others. She lives her life for herself. Infinite respect.

I love Ruby! Her mind is sharp, she’s strong and healthy, proof that raising and growing your own food and breathing mountain air is the best medicine. God bless her and her family. ❤

I’m from a neighboring county and my own grandmother had this same spirit and lived to be 97! She had the same values and lived “off the land” that she was born and raised. I attribute much of my common sense, values and knowledge to her. I see so much of my love for eastern Kentucky in this interview! She’s a jewel and obviously a blessing to many!

Ruby was my grandmother through marriage for years ◡̈ She is such an inspiration and an amazing woman. I remember building a deck at one of her houses at 10 years old and chasing hogs and goats around 😂! So glad I’ve found this interview! It brings back so many good memories
  • This woman is the definition of a badass. Forget all the celebrities talking nonsense without experiencing shit. This lady right here is an example of strength and perseverance for every young girl (and boy) out there.
  • I rarely watch interviews all the way through. However this gem of a woman had me hooked the moment she started talking. So much grace, knowledge, wisdom, and heart. She definitely embodies her name ❤

Her singing got to my soul. I felt her pure joy 😭🥰
  • “I never let anyone get in my way. They get in my way, I go around them.” Yes Ms. Ruby. Yes.

As a rural Kentuckian, I'm happy to see people being respectful and saying sweet things about this woman. Appalachia & the South are often mocked, stereotyped and ridiculed by people around the world so it's wholesome to see so many different people sharing their kind words.
  • @gulfgypsy
To say Ruby is a treasure is not an overstatement. She has more good sense and love of life than most people. I admire her straight forward, confidant nature, her self sufficiency and simple joy in life.

I’m a California truck driver and I always meet truckers that talk like this beautiful lady at an AMPM gas station in LA and they always get me rolling with their stories, these people are good people.
