The rules of writing RWBY 1. All characters are only as smart as the plot allows. 2. Only the current volume is canon. 3. Shipping > character development . 4. There's no power scaling . 5. If any character comes to disagree with team RWBY they will be demonized, flanderizied and humiliated, especially if male (ex. Adam and Ironwood). 6. Only team RWBY is right .
  • They tried to get us to fell sympathy for Cinder - the bitch who killed Pyrrah. At the same time, they tried to get us to hate Ironwood - the guy who, with no prodding, gave a woman he barely knew a robot arm she didn't earn, made the main characters official huntsmen, and put his full trust in the main characters despite how they never earned his trust. Then RT wonders why people are angry about this.
  • The most tragic thing about this show is remembering the very first trailer. The red trailer. How back then we all thought it was special. And how all that incredible potential has been completely wasted just because a pair of talentless stuck-up morons refused to study even the tiniest bit of the do's and don'ts of narrative writing.
  • Seeing what RWBY is now is like seeing your lifelong friend slowly become addicted to drugs, and no matter how many times you try to get help for them, they push back in denial and say that they’re fine.
  • When the Fanfiction makes more sense and is better written than the actual show:
  • Easy fix for cinders back story: show the huntsman help her escape, train her, they form a father-daughter relationship (show it explicitly RT) he is proud of her and one day he trusts her enough to carry a weapon. (By this point cinder is almost an adult).Cinder is reminded of her former family (idk have her see one of them on the street) this reawakens her repressed anger. She kills them that night and the huntsman finds out. He attempts to bring her into the authorities for murder. Cinder feels betrayed by this and the two duke it out. Cinder is victorious but feels empty. She’s killed both of her families and starts to lose it. A small crowd finds her loudly crying and standing over the corpses. They send for help. But one of the bystanders is none other than Dr Watts. He helps her escape. He offers her a place to go and Cinder accepts, not having any options. Watts brings her to Salem and explains Cinders presence Salem love bombs her like a cult leader. Cinder projects her need for a parental figure into Salem which is taken advantage of. This dynamic explains Cinders unquestioning loyalty of Salem and why she’s always trying to impress her. Salem uses this relationship as her ultimate weapon as Cinder has shown a history of ruthlessness and fighting ability. Salem could also be shown to offer Cinder “greatness” via the maiden powers. Have a dialogue line where Salem says something like “you were raised a slave, with my power you’ll be the master.” This would explain why cinder has a short sighted desire for power. She views it as never being a servant ever again. Ironically this desire is what solidifies her as a servant. It’s all there and it need just a few quick scenes and dialogue line and you’ve created a more dynamic villain. Also, yeah season 4/5 should’ve been when they showed Cinders arc. If fits in perfectly with the scene where Salem is berating Cinder for her failure. It’s literally the perfect time to show how their relationship came about.
  • Fun fact: series writers have said they wanted to put cinders backstory in volume 5 but they ‘couldn’t fit it in.’ I assume all the characters standing around doing nothing was more important
  • "My problem isn't RWBY wanting to save everyone. My problem is they don't even have a plan!" Thank you! I guarantee most people who sided with Ironwood only did so for that reason, because any plan is better than "War of attrition with immortal witch with infinite soldiers."
  • @kchnbrn
Always remember, nothing in the show is Canon except the current Episode.
  • @auxityne
Why is slavery allowed in a world where the negativity it generates would cause a cataclysm. Why is Remnant just Earth with extra senseless shit tacked on.
  • At first I didn't understand what people meant when they said RWBY had too many characters because any show has a lot of characters. But now I know the problem is that they show everyone like a main character but uses them like side characters.
  • @CRAM079
There's nothing wrong with having a lot of characters, you just need to know how to use them properly
  • RWBY is what happens when someone decides to watch many Terrible Writing Advice episodes and follows them without noticing the obvious sarcasm, and believe me, I'm not the first to say that.
  • Gonna be honest. The moment they made Ironwood was made to be a bad guy, I stopped watching this fucking show. He was the only one probably keeping me watching lol
  • I got lost at the fact that this series was about groups of student, warriors, thingy that kills monsters. And not about some half-hearted attempt to make a "save the world plot" against the world's worst divorce issue
  • @GIRru11
Oh yeah, I forgot Ruby and Yang are sisters. Just like how the writers forgot too
  • you know it’s bad when the fandom says “screw it i’ll do it myself” and writes their own narrative that’s way better. i’m getting major voltron: legendary defender flashbacks.
  • Imagine setting up your Bigger Bad Salem for 5 seasons only for her to lose her first on-screen fight and end up doing absolutely nothing in the end for the entire season...
