First announced in 2017, NEOM is a futuristic Saudi megacity being built in the middle of the desert. It is a part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's bid to diversify the Gulf state's oil-dependent economy. But since its announcement, NEOM has raised eyebrows as architects, economists and investors have questioned its feasibility and costs. So, Riyadh is now courting investors from across the world. The roadshow for NEOM travelled from Beijing to Shanghai to Hong Kong, chasing Chinese funds, amid speculation about the scope of the project and its finances.
