  • One piece is arguably the best fantasy story ever told in anime, there's a reason why this show is highly praised by many.
  • @storitella25
14:43 The creator, Eiichiro Oda, purposely chose rubber/stretching powers for Luffy to challenge himself. He saw other authors use “cooler” powers, but chose a silly power to force himself to think more creatively when developing his main protagonist.

04:14 "They're all the same to me" Shane sighing like a hugely disappointed father, while the son is pretty much dying inside after that comment, had me dead lmao
  • @Sinvare
Oda didn't want the fights to always be stressful, so he made a main character who fought in a way that reduces the tension and stress for the audience. The world is full of bright colors and characters, but the story has some very mature themes and issues.
  • @nevaladder
It's funny that most of your daughter's questions could be answered by "because, honey, men do silly man things sometimes."
  • @maxpower2480
Man, they are at peak resting-agressively-disinterested-face age. Love it!
  • @Noid1220
The kids are in their edgy stage in life. I love it.
  • @thespiderman3601
As a One Piece fan I can say, the first episode does a great job of condensing this story arc.
  • @beanzaru
Zoro's actor, Mackenyu, is actually the son of the late Sonny Chiba!
  • So a few fun facts about this adaptation are that Oda (the creator of One Piece) was HEAVILY involved with this series. He himself saying they wouldn't release anything until he was happy. The casting is also something that this show is praised for which he also had a lot of involvement with, especially for Luffy and when he saw the actor audition he said "That's Luffy" Another is when this show premieref they did it at L.A. first and showed off the first 2 episodes and Oda actually went undercover to see if people liked it

Prepare yourselves, with each episode it just gets better and better, and you'll get emotional af!
  • Definitely don't let the art style of the manga/anime stop you from experiencing this incredible world. I understand liking more serious anime (maybe because you ONLY experienced those) but don't dismiss something just because it's not edgy (i was like that too). That's what I love about One Piece, it teaches you to find the JOY in everything. Yes, the characters, designs and world are goofy, but so what? This world is the most creative ever put to page/screen. The core of the series is fun adventure. Luffy being so positive' fun, naive, child like makes us excited (as he is) for what's next. The series wouldn't be so popular if we had an edgelord protag who doesn't care about anything or can't be happy. But don't worry, there are plenty of badass and serious/emotional moments in this series and they hit even harder because we switch from goofy to serious. Don't worry it's not 1000 chapters because it's stretched (pun intended), its legit one of the richest worlds created with a lot of mysteries to solve. Also, it rewards immersing yourself in it, enjoying and paying attention. Things mentioned in chapter 1 can be very important in chapter 500. The fans say that "Oda (the author) never forgets" for this reason. If it helps you getting in to it I can say that there could be a legitimate in-universe reason for why it's so goofy and the author had planned it from the start. You'll have to discover why ;) Glad you enjoy the LA, looking forward to the rest!

As a One Piece fan I’m happy to see new people give it a shot. I know it’s pretty goofy at first and it’s not for everyone. I think the live action does a good job of capturing the spirit of the original story.
  • @beanzaru
Eiichiro Oda was actually a HUGE fan of Dragon Ball and was heavily inspired by Toriyama when making One Piece! It went on to become one of the best selling fiction series of all time with only Superman ahead of it right now.
  • @Andrew-qi7wc
Zoros straight out of the anime, he’s one of the strongest in one piece never forget it
  • @CanRotaryLife
If you guys don't fall in love with the crew by the end of the 8th episode... I don't know what to tell you.
  • @Anakin_Ackerman
Luffy's gum-gum abilities are not that weird, he is basically Mr Fantastic but way more powerful.
  • One Piece is still going because the world is explored deeply and is very vast and complex. There's politics, hidden information, a world government and many characters. It gets surprisingly deep as it progresses. Luffy and crew are just the tip of the iceberg. OP is the most story intensive amongst the long running shonens like DBZ, Naruto, Bleach. I think only HxH goes into similar development and that's on shorter scale.
  • @vizionara
the kids have that "can't be bothered" vibe
