Why Did Six Million Brits Sign Up To Veganuary? Here's The Veganuary Story!

Founders Matthew Glover and Jane Land look back over 10 years of Veganuary, with team members and celebrity ambassadors including Evanna Lynch, Kellie Bright, Chris Packham, Peter Egan, Benjamin Zephaniah and Jasmine Harman shining a light on how it has become the cultural phenomenon it is today.

The struggles, the laughs, the unexpected twists and turns; how the seed of an idea grew from a kitchen table in Yorkshire, UK and blossomed into a global calendar event.

The best decision I ever made was to go Vegan. I went Vegan at the age of 50, which was 7 years ago. Every day, I wish I had been Vegan sooner. I wish I had been born and raised Vegan.

After many years as a pescatarian I finally went vegan with Veganuary in 2019, aged 62. Best thing I've ever done, will never go back.

The cool thing is I went vegan in September 2013 and so I've witnessed first-hand the rise of Veganuary from a tiny idea to a global movement

I've been a vegan for many years. I love it and love watching it grow. I don't go out to eat allot during to most of the restaurants in the U.S. don't offer a vegan option. Thank Veganuary for your persistence!

I went vegan a year and a half ago. And I’ve helped 6 people do the same. And many more I’ve helped and am actively helping to work toward it. It’s wonderful. I eat whole plants only too. Changed my life forever. No more yo yo dieting.

I uh… I definitely cried at the end there. Seeing everyone involved with this, it just pulls at my heartstrings. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is anti-animals & the planet. Where I live in midwestern small town US, restaurants don’t offer a single vegan option. But then I see this & I remember that we’re making progress & gaining momentum. I can feel us getting closer to the days when children will read about factory farming in history books, appalled that most of society supported it and ate animals. We got this, we really do. I’m so honored to be in this fight with you guys. Nothing will stop this movement.

I did Veganuary 2018 -- and never looked back. I was already pescatarian and mostly plant-based at home, but I knew that I wanted to be fully vegan to most authentically align with my ethics and beliefs. It is one of the best decisions I have EVER made, and I am so grateful for Veganuary existing to bring the beauty and importance of veganism to people who might not have given it a try otherwise <3
  • Such happy tears for this growth with Veganuary. Thank you for helping change the world 💯 🌍
  • Shifts to veganism are essential to efforts to avert a climate catastrophe and leave a habitable, healthy, environmentally sustainable world for future generations. Kudos to Veganuary for your wonderful efforts to make that happen and best wishes for much continued success.

I went vegan, along with two friends, on January 1st, 2013. We are all proud to say we would never go back. Vegan for life!

I've been vegan 10 years now - since the age of 50. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Loved seeing this video - hopefully one day Western Australia will be as vegan friendly as the UK - eating out is still limited but the options in supermarkets have definitely improved. Congratulations to the Veganuary team. I sign up every year.

Ugh, this made me cry. A well made short documentary on the whole movement. I enjoyed seeing how this grew.

So happy to see this! 7 years this veganuary for me, and 6 years ago I was thrilled to be asked to be a moderator for the Facebook support group. Best decision ever! Have met so many wonderful people. Thank you @veganuary xx

I'd love to see this reach Japan. Sadly, all the greatest things seem to take 10~20 years to reach the shores of Japan before it's recognized... even then, it takes another decade to be accepted.
  • @VeggoFix
We fully support Veganuary!❤ The story from the organisers resonates a lot with us and we are very happy for them with their success!

Ive been veggie since I was 18. I moved on to vegan 2019. I'm 71. Last month I was told by a doctor, after a thorough check up, that I was amazingly healthy, and did I put that down to my vegan diet? Of course I do.
