Some other good ones: Sorry about the demon (funny and scary rather than terrifying) and Thirteen Ghosts (Matthew Lillard), though I recognise that's an acquired taste. And, as you said, The Last Amityville. But yes, when anything becomes formulaic the shine's gone. Fans keep hoping for something better but the Hollywood machine doesn't deliver. There's a whole rant in there ...

"All The Conjuring movies are really kind of lame." THANK YOU!

Agreed Pete, last 20 yrs .....the well has run dry 😢. My choice in annoying horror is FF genre .
  • I can't argue with any of this, especially since a lot of these movies make a bunch of money, inspiring more and more of them to get made. I don't have a ton of ill-will toward any subgenre because any success in horror gets horror of all kinds greenlit, but I do have a bit of disdain for The Conjuring films and a lot of the related dreck. It's true, there was like a cut off, when these films lost the resonance of the classics we love. It's that they're quite cookie-cutter, paint-by-number, checking boxes rather than making truly good films. I hate unearned jump scares, especially when they're just a quick cut or a musical jolt. Hm, it'll be interesting to see what Calin has to say. If it's found footage, he'll automatically lose. 🤣

I feel the same way about zombies. So many zombie movies have to hit the same 5 beats. Love zombies but it’s just been overdone. Interested in what Carlin says.
