What is 30 years together, a failure? A tragedy? They chose their paths, which finally took them apart, but that's not a failure. That's their story, and that's their business.

Lange is one of a handful of actors that continues to get stronger during the course of her practicing her craft. She just keeps giving incredible performances & I love her for that :)

Some actors are just a treat to watch on the big screen in whichever movie.Lange is one of them.
  • I found this very sad, I remember the chemistry, oh they were so crazy for each other, she was gorgeous and he had a mystery about him, they seemed the perfect match, she stayed 30 yrs and he kept coming back. I think they still loved each other to the end, they just couldn't be without each other but had to for her sanity as he had this deep failure within him.

I’ve been in love with Jessica since “Frances”.I performed in several of Shepherds plays throughout my career. Both of them are genius. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their sharing.
  • I liked them both and I had the biggest crush on Shepherd back when I was very young. He's beautiful to look at.
  • One of the most beautiful women ever.. She is just a natural beauty. I ll always remember the movie Tootsie. She was unbelievably beautiful in it. And she is a great actress.

30 years together, I'd say that counts as making it work even if they eventually split up.

One of the most beautiful female stars of our time ,and a woman who sacrificed so much for her kids, but they both loved each other, could of times left the marriage but now Sam is gone ,no regrets for the love of her life ,much respect to Jessica a true woman with value and commitment.
  • I always thought they were a sexy and romantic and smart couple. I'm sorry he died way to soon. Jessica still putting out the juiciest performances. Such a beautiful complicated mysterious woman. GOOD FOR HER!

J.Lange should get the Golden Globe Lifetime Achievement Award, or the SAGs AA, --actually all achievement awards there is! What a talented woman!

it's not up to women to save men, the situation sounds abusive
  • So very sad! You can't fix broken people! Many people try loving that person more to compensate for that person's lack of self love and worth. In the end, it is not your problem to own or to fix! It is theirs and theirs alone! I applaud Jessica for trying! God bless her! So heartbreaking! 💔
  • I followed Shepard for years and read many of his books and plays. I even have a signed first edition of Hawk Moon by him. The Motel Chronicles was another good book by him. He was abused by his father. He was a charming intelligent guy but who also seemed to have a mean streak and a coldness to him that you see in a lot of men who were battered and physically and emotionally abused by their fathers.

tortured souls are hard to live with, at least he did voice his regret for not being there for family
  • Someone told me to never meet your heroes. Always remember who you thought they were. Great video.
  • They were really the essence of Monroe and Miller. This video is a beautiful tribute to Sam and Jessica.

I went to middle school in North Hollywood with Sam Shepard's first wife, Olan Johnson (known professionally as Olan Jones.) Her mother, Scarlett, ran one of the first hippie communes there. She was about ten years ahead of her time. At the time, in 1962, I would not have figured Olan would marry one of the legendary, multi-talented sex symbols of the late 20th century.
