A small part in Steel Magnolias, but this quiet thoughtful moment between him and Dolly comes near the end of the film.

Anyone who hasn't read Sam's plays or stories, I urge you to do so. You'll get a lot of pleasure out of it - an incredible writer.

I fell in love with him in the movie The Right Stuff.
  • We saw him several times in the audiences of his Broadway plays, he would sit alone at the back, many in the audiences knew the cool guy was there but there were no long stares, we deeply appreciated knowing he was there.
  • He should have been the lead in Bridges of Madison county. The whole time I read that book I had him in mind.

Amazing writer, actor, human being, and so damned good looking.

He will be sorely missed. He was the type of actor who did it so well that he made it look easy and effortless! That is the way good actors apply their skills to the screen. I think he was wrongly overlooked by many and especially the awards’ executives and members. But I don’t think he missed that a lot! He just enjoyed doing what he loved. God bless you Sam.

Great moment! Anyone remember him in "Crimes Of The Heart"? Jessica Lange and Sam dancing and getting drunk from dusk to dawn? Another terrific movie and performance.
