But what made the show a huge hit were the cast members. Sadly, many of these cast members have passed away.

Let’s take a moment to look at all Dallas actors who have died. The protagonist was J.R. Ewing played by Larry Hagman. He was a native Texan who had found success in “I Dream of Jeannie.” But it was his role as J.R. that made him a national treasure. He died in 2012 due to complications from cancer.

J.R.’s mother was Ellie who was played by actress Barbara Bel Geddes who was already an iconic actress by now. She was already a household name but managed to reach a new generation of fans with Dallas. She died of lung cancer in 2005.

J.R.’s nemesis was Cliff Barnes who was played by Ken Kercheval. Though his character had animosity toward the Ewing’s, in reality, he was a great friend of both Larry Hagman and Barbara Bel Geddes. Apart from Dallas, he had a successful career with many other popular television shows. He died in 2019 after enduring a long illness.

Dallas also had many other talented actors who were part of the supporting cast. Without the excellent talents of these actors, the show wouldn’t have become a success. It’s sad to look back at all Dallas actors who have died. But by looking back at their lives, you can appreciate their talents and their dedication to their craft. It can serve as an inspiration for you to follow your own dreams!

I grew up in the 70s but we did not watch TV much. EVERYONE was talking about this series. A half century I am watching - and it is ALL THAT IT WAS CRACKED UP TO BE. AMAZING
  • I own the series and currently watching season 10. I remember watching it as a child up till season 9, now , finally getting the chance to finish watching the whole lot. I find it huge in quality as script and actors play. It dwarfs today's soap opera performance and I think it will never be matched in any of the characteristics.

I don't think Dallas could attract new fans now without J.R. and Cliff. There was NEVER a better rivalry!

I was born in Dallas and have lived in Arlington my whole life. My cousins from south Texas came up during the run of Dallas and we had to take them to see Southfork. It was out in the country then, now it’s grown up so much. Everyone thought we all had a ranch and rode horses to work.
  • Oh, the good old days of Dallas, love you J. R. And your bad boy persona! I had a crush on you as Major Nelson too! RIP Larry Hagman.

Dallas was a brilliant show, shown in Denmark in the 80s and it was a BIG succes here, I will always remember it. Yes, something like this could be good even the day today, all the caracters were just amazing - never seen anything like this since then.

Memories of watching this show with my aunt and grandparents. I couldn't get enough of the addiction that is Dallas. True story, I got my daughter's name from this show, whom I named Pamela Rebecca.
