The park bears the name of a small palace on its territory, built in 1775 by the Count D'Artois, the younger brother of Louis XVI, on a bet with his daughter-in-law Marie Antoinette: He won the bet with 900 workers involved, working day and night.
The city municipality acquired the Bagatelle Palace in 1904.
The pavilion, except for the ancillary buildings, has been classified as a historical monument since January 31, 1978.
