“Mirabel is a really funny, loving character who also deeply yearns for something more,” says Beatriz. “She’s also not afraid to stand up for what she knows is right—something I love and relate to very much.

“I’m Colombian on my father’s side, and playing this role fills me with immense pride,” continues Beatriz. “As a Disney kid, I’d burn through my VHS tapes and adored every single magical story that the world of Disney introduced me to. I learned in those that stories that anything is possible, especially if you believe in magic and the goodness rooted deep inside us all.”

In the film, the magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope. The voice cast also includes María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Jessica Darrow, Rhenzy Feliz and Carolina Gaitan.

The new trailer includes an original song from the film, “Colombia, Mi Encanto,” performed by 17-time GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY winner, singer, songwriter and actor Carlos Vives, who’s a native of Santa Marta, Colombia. “This song is a celebration of the magical diversity of Colombia,” says Vives. “I can’t wait to see how the music will blend with the images and the characters inspired by the ‘encanto’ of Colombians.”

The film features all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”) and is directed by Byron Howard (“Zootopia,” “Tangled”) and Jared Bush (co-director “Zootopia”), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”) and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino. Bush and Castro Smith are screenwriters on the film. The filmmakers were deeply inspired by their research trip to Colombia during early development of “Encanto,” as well as their continuous work with a group of expert consultants assembled through the course of the film’s production. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” opens in cinemas November 26, 2021.

  • Do you wish any of these scenes or characters had been in Encanto?!

“By age 4 he had grown a mustache by the sheer force of his will.”

    That’s pretty hilarious
  • @artemisrose7423
This is why they NEED a show or squeal. To show everyones room and more screen time per character because camilo was never standing alone
  • I like what they did with the story and honestly think that all the cuts they made were the right cuts. Changing Bruno’s name from Oscar makes a lot of sense and while I think it would have been really really cool to see the environment change according to Mirabel’s emotions, I think that rather than being distracting, it would have been really hard to both do AND say she didn’t have a gift. Changing the building according to her emotions? That’s a power!

There should really be a series for this. I personally would like it if Beuno get's a spotlight at least. He's the type of character who got the gift but the gift is seen as a curse so. A backstory would be good. And the other characters with gifts as well should have a limelight

Isabela’s potato family would’ve been cute to see. However, it only could’ve worked if it was a secret she kept in her room to hide the caring and sensitive side to her character.

Dude, I cried with the idea of Luisa's room. I think it would have been amazing to see that. And also, she totally deserved more screen time than she actually got.
  • @ciripolixo2346
I would have loved to see an Antonio as a mute character who talked through animals. I understand why they made the cut because it would take a lot of screen time to have Antonio constantly beckon his animals whenever he wanted to talk but it would have been a really cool idea
  • @samcole3795
I understand why they wanted such a big cast and wanting the feel of a super big family to increase the pressure of holding everyone together and also just explore dynamics in multigenerational families but I feel like none of the characters were really thoroughly explored other than Mirabel, and it felt like sort of a let down to introduce all these cool people and then have them not get many lines. I kept expecting Delores to matter more but she never did, and Antonio pretty much didn't matter after he got his door.
  • @vixenriah
i’d like to think that Dolores’ bedroom is completely silent and sound-proof — the only room she can’t be bothered in or hear everyone else’s life going on
  • @witchplease9695
You forgot that Camilo was originally supposed to be an edgy, angry teen and the meanest member of the family that bullied Mirabel (before learning to accept her for not having powers). They decided to make him a funny theater kid that while mischievous, is still kind and loving towards his family and the townspeople.
  • disney should do a short film on Encanto showing the inside of everyone's rooms
  • i really hope we get either a second movie or a series that gives us more depth and backstory to each of the characters, their traumas and their current struggles with their gifts. especially with Camilo, i feel like his gift would be a real issue for him because it would give him an identity crisis of who he really is, questioning if when he shapeshifts back to himself it really is himself or it's just what he has subconsciously set as his default look, how he has to use his gift to make everyone happy but what if it doesn't work or what if he has so much sadness built up inside that at one point he lashes out and no one knows how to help him because he's usually cracking jokes to make ppl laugh. i really think we should see Camilo deal with those things, and also a situation where he starts to heal and learn how to work on all these things and figure out who he is. sorry i'm very passionate about it because i kin Camilo and i went through a major identity crisis all alone, so it would be rlly comforting to see it represented in something like this lol
  • @egranger2128
The twins could have a whole movie on their own. That’s an interesting concept
  • @Namonstar
Honestly, just by how much freedom each character gives and how much stuff they cut out, I think they could make a sequel and everyone would love it
  • @ccappa2001
I wish bruno got his own song, he really never fully expresses himself like the other characters. I think that in a sequel he should get his own song. That would be so great.
  • Camilo and Dolores are the side characters that the fandom would give their life to
  • i would have loved to see camilo’s room or had a song about his struggles (as well as one for delores) since all
their problems are related to their powers, maybe camilos could be that he has no true sense of self due to constantly playing other people. maybe delores has anxiety or paranoia because she can hear everything
  • @geekygengar5467
I think they made the right choices. I also like to think that the Casita is the manifestation of Abuello's spirit sheltering and taking care of the family.
