๐ ABOUT ME ๐
Hi! My name is Alice and I love books! I read just about everything from classics to contemporary fiction, adventures to mysteries, fantasy to all kinds of non-fiction - and I love reviewing and recommending books, and just generally having a chat about literature. I also adore baking, hot chocolate, crafts and basically everything cosy, soft and peaceful. I currently live in Oslo, Norway.

The Dead Zone is a really good story, movie adaptation is really good too.
-
I've read The Island but I read it in danish
-
Thornhedge is another of TKโs fractured fairy tales with interesting twists. Nettle and Bone -and What Moves the Dead are my favorite books of hers though.
-
The Number One Ladies Detective Agency is wonderful. You wil love her as a friend.
-
There's an English version of the Solvej Balle book listed on goodreads, translated by Barbara J. Haveland
-
Weyward is so good.
-
Love your book recommendation. I wish you would tells us a bit of your story of living in Norway.
-
I was one of the people who recommended the no. 1 ladies detective series. I have just finished all 16 of the books! Trust me Alice you will love them! โค๐

I love Janice Hallett! Her books are just so fun. The Appeal cracked me up! I read Alperton Angels earlier this year. Enjoy!!
-
I really enjoyed The Last Murder at the End of the World and The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels. I wanted to read Madam but, like you, I saw the low ratings on Goodreads and I decided not to read it. So interested to hear your thoughts on it. I didn't like Study for Obedience. It just wasn't my cup of tea. And I DNF'ed Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone. It just got a bit too silly for me. Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on all of these, Alice โบ

Wonderful haul! The first four books especially are beautiful. I really want to read something by Stuart Turton soon. I loved the Benjamin Stevenson books. His second one was recently released and is also good, but the first one, the one you have now, was my favorite. Portrait of an unknown lady sounds very interesting to me. Have a good week๐

The Dead Zone is a book of Stephen King I actually like. I LOVED the Benjamin Stevenson book, I can't wait to see what you think of it.

The #1 Ladies' Detective Agency series is lovely! I don't actually classify it as a cozy mystery -- Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi don't really solve crimes (although they do a bit) so much as solve people's problems. The books are charming and sweet, and definitely a love letter to Botswana. The Dead Zone is one of my favorite SK's books! I'll be interested to hear what you think about it. I'm currently finishing up the new Booker winner, Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. After that, I have two of the newest Antoine Laurain's books. He's an interesting French writer who just keeps putting out quality stories. I've been a fan of his for a long, long time. I'm also excited to read Madam. I'm such a ridiculous sucker for boarding school stories -- particularly ones set anywhere on the coast. Sounds divine!

I picked up Sweet Bean Paste second hand. I know it is one of your favs and it was the reason I bought it. The everyday human trying to get along and find a connection to life. I really enjoyed it and the description of the cherry blossoms ๐ธ.
-
Hey Alice! That's some really fine selection! I loved Weyward! I hope you will too!
-
Happy to see you again Alice, and so glad you cleared up that โgrandmaโ thing! LOL!

My birthday just pasted and I received The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon, The No-No Boy by John Okada, Novel Destinations (second edition), Gilmore Girls: At Home in Stars Hollow by Micol Ostowand Illustrated by Cecilia Messina, Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, Fools Errand by Robin Hobb (these ones were more about wanting a regular size paperback instead of a mass market). I also bought a bind-up of books one and two of the Rosales saga by F. Sionil Jose, and America is in the Heart by Carlos Bulson. I just ordered The Letters of JRR Tolkien. It cost so much more at the store, so I decided to order off of Amazon.
-
I loooooved The Island when I read it years ago. Wasnโt sure I would at first and then I was HOOKED! Iโve had Madam on the shelves for ages and should really get to it. Portrait of an Unknown Lady, same again. It was a cover buy. I really need to shop my shelves more. Lovely haul!

Oh you're going to have a good time with Everyone in my family ๐ Thornhedge is a twist on Sleeping beauty, very atmospheric and interesting. I loved Nettle and Bone, not Swordheart (the first half is good though), and waiting for my copy of What moves the dead. What's the second Kingfisher your read and recommend besides Nettle and Bone?
