Rockhounding Washington: Little Naches Thundereggs

Quartz Creek is off of the Little Naches River in Washington, and here you can find some really nice Thundereggs if you dig down to the thick yellowish clay layer. I also strongly suggest reaching out to the WSMC for an area map.

Just went today, your advice is spot on. The pits,lots of eggs.The walk is crazy high up.your arrow is there, I got a photo.

Thanks for sharing. What is the hike like to the spot? Wondering if my 4 year old could make it. She does make the hike to the lower Hansen Creek spot, for comparison.

Do you pack out all your finds to open later? We haven’t done too much geodes but I get too excited when looking for concretions and crack them all open right away. I did get lucky two weeks ago and found a bunch of mussel fossils when we trudged up lyre river.

You should cut them into perfect cubes. And shaker table them smooth.

I cant get the location to pop up on maps once you turn on to FS-1901 how far do you drive before you get to the trail?

I have the same saw as you, if you start a cut into the bigger pieces then finish it off by rolling it by hand you can cut larger rocks
