"I was wrongly accused of war crimes." Battle of Danny Boy hero Brian Wood tells his story

Published 2024-02-14
Brian Wood was on his first tour of Iraq in 2004 with the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment when he was sent to help save comrades ambushed by militia at Checkpoint Danny Boy.
Seriously outnumbered, he led his men into the teeth of enemy fire across open ground in what became known as the Battle of Danny Boy. His actions that day won him a Military Cross for gallantry.
However, years later he was part of a national inquiry and accused of serious war crimes – accusations that were later dismissed.
Since then, Brian has battled PTSD, had his life story turned into a BBC film and recently helped raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for Walking With The Wounded – a charity the Veterans’ Foundation is proud to support.

Woody has always been a true gent, to even accuse this man of wrong doing on the battle field was a complete travesty. This man welcomed me when I joined 1 PWRR. The man is one of the nicest men you will ever have the privilege to meet.

When you serve you come under scrutiny all the time from those who dont serve

And when they come home there even more damaged then when they left, they relive over and over what they went through, many take there life to avoid the daily pain of what they saw and dealt with on a day to day basis. I see veterans living out on the streets, because they can’t get the help the desperately need. My dad was a veteran of WWII and when he got Parkinson’s disease my mother put him in a nursing home where he was abused everyday for 3 years. I thought I was living in the greatest country in the world, but apparently not when this happens or where our veterans are found living on the streets or when places turn a blind eye in the care of when they come home. But, that’s just my opinion.
  • People say the WW2 generation was the last great generation but these men who served for our country is definitely the last great generation you won’t ever see my generation running into war these men are the greatest men of our time
  • Never forget them, and rip Lee Rigby, a name that is lost amongst all the blm and runnymede vitriol
