Fontainebleau State Park is a beautiful Louisiana State Park, but we drew the short straw when we chose our campsite, our very odd campsite. In fact, it is sites like this that got us started with campground tours! First of all, I was late booking a site so had only a few to choose from. We stayed in site 122 but had to turn our RV around to face the opposite direction. If we didn't do this we would literally be walking out our door into our neighbors living area and our awnings would be touching! We did not have a fire ring or a grill at our site, not a big deal for us but perhaps a deal breaker for others. Anyway, we solved the problem and even with our rocky start at this park, we found it beautiful, peaceful, and we had lots to do here.

What we love about Fontainebleau State Park:
1. Scenic! Beautiful woods, wetlands, lake, pond, Spanish moss, giant trees, old sugar mill ruins, windy park roads...
2. Trails - Nice wide trails to walk or bike on, in addition to the Tammany Trace which is a paved 31 miles bike trail at the entrance to the park. Park roads also provide miles of bike riding.
3. Cane Bayou Kayak Trail - get up close with the alligators, kayak to the lake
4. Mandeville is close, in fact you can bike there for lunch or visit the farmer's market on Saturdays.
5. Verizon works
6. Most sites provide adequate space although some are close- check the campground maps. Also, sites offer different amenities.
7. Sunsets over Lake Pontchartrain - Stunning! There's also a nice pier to walk out over the water for a closer look at the lake.
8. Splash pad, playground, picnic areas
9. CLEAN!
10. Seven sewer sites here - nice!
11. Several pull through sites

What we didn't love about Fontainebleau State Park:
1. Site 122! We made it work but we should have made a video about our set up that day. It was entertaining to us and probably anyone watching. On the bright side, we met some nice folks on both sides of us.
2. Heads up: Trails are a little muddy for those of you who don't like wet trails.

Fontainebleau State Park is our first Louisiana State Park. We loved it! Nice job, Louisiana.

Next stop: Another Louisiana State Park, Palmetto Island State Park

Another good one. Gave a good look and feel for this park. I agree, Your site was not the best. I like that you always find the bright side. It’s the only way to truly enjoy life. Happy camping 😁
