Will William Become The King Diana Wanted Him To Be? | My Mother Diana | Timeline

Published 2018-05-11
Nearly thirty years after his parents exchanged their wedding vows, Prince William walked down the aisle at Westminster Abbey with his new bride. 'My Mother Diana' looks at how Diana’s life, her relationship with the House of Windsor, the media and the public have shaped her eldest son, Prince William. When a twenty year-old Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, their wedding at St Paul’s was watched by billions; it was the last great royal wedding to galvanise the British public. But that relationship would develop into a romantic tragedy, whose effects would be more profound than anyone could have imagined. In his marriage to Kate Middleton, Prince William is entering into a new and independent stage of his life…a life in which his mothers influence and presence appear centre-stage and ever-present.. It is easy to forget that William’s formative years were not the idyll with the ’Princess of People’s Hearts’…rather they took place in the midst of a vicious divorce battle. William’s loyalties divided and fought over during the War of the Wales.

‘My Mother Diana’ is the story of Charles and Diana's marriage from a new and revealing point of view. It’s the story of how their marriage shaped William. It explores the effect of his mother’s relationships, the tell-all book she collaborated on with Andrew Morton, the effects of her Panorama interview and William's reaction to his father’s relationship with Camilla. On the surface William appears to be a product of the old order, groomed by the House of Windsor. But William is the son of Diana – who transcended celebrity and transformed the monarchy. This film seeks to understand William by exploring his relationship with his mother and examines where William was as key moments of her later life played out; because what she went through made him who he is today Why did William propose using his mother’s engagement ring? And what does it tell us about this future King and the legacy of his mother Diana? Fourteen years after her death Diana’s influence appears undiminished. But will William be the King Diana wished him to be?

Princess diana will always be remembered as the peoples princess, while camila will always be remembered as the mistress and a home wrecker.

Let’s be honest the only reason William and Harry didn’t turn out ugly was cause of Diana, how Charles chose Camilla over her is beyond me but I guess ugly attracts ugly(and it’s reflected just as much onto their personalities).
  • I think William will be even more than Diana could have ever dreamed. He has taken so much from what his mother taught him. He picked the right person to share his life and someone who his a great support and calming partner. She would be proud.

Tbh I feel William suffered the most, from his parents' failed marriage to Princess Di's death. Being the oldest child, he had lots of expectations and burdens on him. To go through all that, just at the age of 15, is something I can't ever imagine having to go through.
  • She was so innocent when she got married. How she answered to the question: Yes! With no hesitation. And then Charles said "whatever in love means" and you can see her eyes became sad and she looked down

The look on Diana's face when he goes 'whatever in love means'... oh my god, it completely broke her. Sweet, sweet Diana.

I was born 3 years after Diana passed away and yet me and my whole generation loves her. That is powerful
  • Young Prince William at 15 years of age already displayed a strength in handling the problem that even an adult would have difficulty in dealing with. So adorable.
  • If there was anyone caught in the crossfire, it was William. He would console his mom,a big brother to Harry., and had to get along with Charles.. I pray for him and so glad that he is the heir.❤❤❤

She deserved to be loved, respected, valued in her marriage. She was given none of that. Instead, he shamed, disrespected, cheated, and mocked both it and his trusting young wife. She was alone with no support. I will not forget how badly Diana was treated by Charles and his family. So very sad. Sweet Diana Rest in Peace.
  • William pushing tissues under the door for his crying mum. That’s the sweetest and saddest part of this that I never heard.

I'm sort of sceptical about Diana...but how I feel and still for William as a young lad he seemed to have felt responsible for not just his younger brother but for his mum...how sad...what a beautiful young man and still is..Too much focus on Harry in away rightfully so but not at the expense of missing William's pain n hurt he experienced
  • True Grace, devoted Mother but her sadness can be Understood-God Bless this Amazing Lovely Lady. ❤

I think Diana realized just at the moment when Charles said"whatever love is", she knew he didn't love her. The look she had on her face said it all. Very sad.
  • When he said, "Whatever in love means" I think she knew then he didn't love her. I think she loved him, but the look on her face, just heartbreaking to see. She was totally crushed.
  • God Bless William & Catherine and their GORGEOUS Family. Diana is smiling down with love & pride, I'm sure. Cheers to the new Prince & Princess of Wales!!
