Can the climate still be saved? Scientists like oceanologist Mojib Latif are disillusioned. Neither the warnings from climate researchers nor public protests have prompted sufficient action from politicians and big business interests.

Why? This question is the subject of this film. One factor is the sluggish political action of governments in almost every country in the world -- despite numerous climate protection conferences. The lack of political action can often be traced to large fossil fuel companies, which have prevented the implementation of effective environmental and climate protection measures, fearing for their profit margins.

For some time now, young people have also been fighting for radical change. Against ruthless companies and politicians who are incapable of acting, in their view. "Fridays for Future” and "The Last Generation” want to see an immediate change of course. Mojib Latif sympathizes with their concerns. But he wonders what their forms of protest, which he finds too radical, really achieve. In large parts of society, they tend to provoke anger, which can serve to increase society‘s lack of understanding. Have there ever been successful forms of protest? Perhaps other approaches are needed to convince people.

Ultimately, however, each individual person -- and their human brain - may be at the root of the problem. Why? Solving complex problems in the long term is not the human brain’s strongpoint, says neuroscientist Henning Beck. "The structure of our brain negatively influences our behavior when tackling big problems.”

In this documentary, numerous voices from the world of science weigh in, analyzing the ‘climate protection problem’ from different perspectives. During the documentary, it becomes clear why scientific educational work has not led to sufficient climate protection despite the clarity of the situation. The film shows which hurdles still need to be overcome -- economic and political, as well as very human ones - and how science can help.

Yes, big business and governments want profit before efficiency and actually saving the planet...

Truth be told big companies are the main offenders here Not the little guy driving his little car to work Yes - the little things cumulate but still its just wrong to bash on the little guys while ignoring the big offenders And then there are the activists that are setting their priorities wrong and are just good at annoying the working people...

The bulk of the collective is insane. Suffering is the only way we will awaken.

PBS did a video awhile ago about how making it about individuals as opposed to the companies was actually done BY the companies to put the burden on consumers, not the company. It worked. We are busy attscking each other for driving instead of walking, forgetting to recycle 1 plastic bottle, protesting citizens as opposed to focusing on the businesses and government contracts that are 99.90% of the issue. So yes, we are to dumb because we let ourselves be distracted and turned on each other

Greed is very powerful. We all deep down know what the right thing to do is. But nobody wants to make sacrifices to see it through.

After the rains in Rio Grande do Sul Brazil destroyed the entire state and left many deniers stranded, people began to understand the consequences of climate change. It is interesting to see the materiality of events happening and reality imposing itself in a violent way.
  • Not a question of stupidity. It's more about selfishness and complacency.

Activism receive funds from corporations. Goverments receive donations from corporations. The same corporations responsible for pollution. Activists are pawns, going to bother citizens that have no power over things. Activists should go after the responsible ones, the corporations.
  • When do climate scientists talk about unnecessary manufacturing due to planned obsolescence which is going to produce more CO2? When do they talk about mandatory accounting in the schools so consumers are smarter? When do they point out economists ignoring the depreciation of durable consumer goods since Sputnik?

Too busy making money destroying it to stop destroying it. We never tried.
  • @EV-FUN
Definitely we are, because many parents and grandparents still use their petrol feeded cars without any regret.

Climate scientist: "The sea is rising!" Householder: "Will it affect the value of my property?" DW: "Let's make another documentary".

When I went to college to study psychology 15 years ago, the lecturers told us that one of the best jobs we would find was working for large corporations as employees in the department of developing methods to steer the customers/consumers of these companies. Even then, this job market was sizable and lasted many years. BigCorp have a staff of top psychologists to manipulate public opinion. The average citizen who knows nothing about psychology has no chance in these battles. It's like going into an MMA duel with a professional without a single day of training.

Needs to be reframed, it should be a call to save the people.
  • No. Just too greedy. 100 companies produce more than 80%-90% c02 emissions.

Smoking is a personal choice, what companies and government do to us is not.
