I have been using a kiddy pool on top of a patio table to grow lettuce and spinach for years. No bending over for us elderly people, to harvest the leafy greens. Just walk around the table and cut what you need. The greens have a early and short growing season and When they are finished I save the potting soil in a container and have my patio table back for the late spring and summer seasons. Just add compost to your mix at the time of storing for next years crops.

Another great video Dan. Home grown ginger is great stuff. Just an idea for you. If you don't already have a video on testing and correcting soil for pH, maybe that would be a good video. Maybe even test for micronutrients and stuff too. Just a thought. Great channel. Great content. Thanks. Keep it up

That was really cool. It's a good idea for those of us that have small backyards Thank you for sharing.

Unfortunately, our grocery stores are now selling irradiated ginger. Ughhh... some medicinal that is! (They also sell fish purchased from China!) Will have to get to a health food store to buy viable ginger.
  • Oops - I planted before I saw this - it had everything but roots. When does zone 6 plant onions - I tried them i the pool and even after hardening off my plants - they didn't make it - so I'm ordering some from Dixondale . . . am I too late here in IN to plant the onion plants and have them grow to maturity - TN says he has had his in the ground for well over a month.... I'm so trying to get food for my family - just basics - carrots, potatoes, onions, celery or cutting celery - praying hard that I don't waste my money - getting the beds all ready for them to arrive next week.

I only have a very tiny patio space where I could fit maybe 5 kid pools so I’d love some guidance on how to make the most of verical space. How can I craft a vertical cylindrical shaped grower and have ginger growing on multiple levels?
