In Our Own Words

Published 2015-02-06
In 2002, Virginia's Indian tribal leaders were interviewed for this video, a result of a two-year oral history project. The information they impart speaks for the ages by tracing their own history including the persistence of Virginia Indian identity and culture 400 years after the European settlement of their lands. Tribes: Chickahominy, Eastern Chickahominy, Mattaponi, Upper Mattaponi, Monacan, Nansemond, Pamunkey, and Rappahannock. Great appreciation to Dr. Danielle Moretti-Langholtz, coordinator of the American Indian Resource Center at the College of William & Mary.

Why do they continue to call the native tribes "Indians"
