Fifteen years old girl meets her bone marrow donor for the first time.

Published 2013-11-04
Olivia Tate was born with Sickle Cell disease and her only chance for a cure was a bone marrow transplant. After searching the Be the Match registry a 100% compatible was found. Sidnei Barbosa registered at a bone marrow drive held by the Icla da Silva Foundation in 2002 and donated bone marrow to Olivia. Both met for the very first time at the Icla da Silva Foundation 2013 Hope Gala in New York City.

I'm 15 and also had cancer when I was 6 years old but I'm all alright now and just want to say thank you to those amazing people donating because if it wasn't for you I wouldn't be alive today ♥️

The parents of the kids that looked at her and said that's a cancer patient, need to have a long talk with those kids

Sign up to be a donor. It’s not a major procedure; it really isn’t - especially for someone young in their 20s, 30s and 40s.💗
