Her performance with the footage from the 1972 motion Picture 'Silent Running'

Fields of children running wild in the sun
Like a forest is your child growing wild in the sun
Doomed in his innocence in the sun

Gather your children to your side in the sun
Tell them all they love will die,
Tell them why in the sun

Tell them it's not too late
Cultivate one by one
Tell them to harvest and rejoice in the sun

This song reduces me to tears every time I hear it. What ever happened to the younger generation of the early 70's. The world was supposed to become a better place.......now look how messed up it is.
  • I saw just about every sci-fi film across every decade in my preteen years. Almost nothing shook me to the core like this did. 30 years later, the song is still haunting me, like the ghost of an offworld botanist from beyond the grave.

The most underrated sci fi classic ever-and that includes the great Forbidden Planet and Soylent Green thanks for putting this hauntingly beautiful song up

In the context of this movie I think this is the most beautiful song ever written.

This says more to me about my childhood than Star Wars ever did ...
  • This is the progenitor of the sci-fi film as we conceive of it. What a movie. What a song. What a message. Absolutely exquisite.

I saw this film 50 over years ago, not long after the first Earth Day was celebrated. The song still resonates with all that has been lost to the world and the people who live in it now...

Joan Baez had to top off this movie by singing "Rejoice in the Sun" the move made me cry and I love Huey, Dewey and Louie!

I’m sixty. This movie made a huge impact on me.
  • First time i saw this was 1976 - i remember feeling very sad that he was forced to Nuke the domes. Both me and my sister cried when one of the Robots got swept away, hidden messages abounded in this film, two of them remain very constant - Doing what you are ordered to isn't always the best or right thing and it is perfectly normal to question. The second is that with Death, Life continues. No matter how bad things look..Life continues. Lovely film x

Some critics and reviewers point out this film's shortcomings, but always miss the key point - it just works. It sends a powerful message which we still ignore at our peril. And it makes me cry - every time. Definitely one of my top 10 films of all time.

Schools should show this film as part of the curriculum.

When I first saw this in a movie theater I was crying at the end. Now some 50+ years later I still cry over this movie. Just got done watching a DVD I made years ago of this movie and I am still crying at the end. One of THE best sifi movies ever made. Bruce was a perfect choice for the lead. Joan's singing is so haunting it's scary but beautiful. No one else can sing this song like she could. Truly one of the CLASSICS for decades to come. Never out of style.
  • RIP Douglas Trumbull (1942-2022). A brilliant cinematic visionary and a true pioneer in groundbreaking VFX who made this beautiful film.

A movie I've loved for years! This song always gets me in the 2nd verse: "Gather your children to your side... Tell them all they love will die... Tell them why..."
  • @narinoamor
This Film should be shown to every child. It would lead to a better world. Beautiful Song.
  • ALWAYS THOUGHT THIS MOVIE WAS SO SAD. IT DID MAKE ME CRY THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT. A SHAME TO THINK WE MAY END UP LIKE THAT.
  • @zappa099
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I EVER SAW !!!!!
  • @Tieyme
What are you talking about man. This is one of the few films I've seen in my life that has made me cry; and I was crying about a fucking robot! Masterpiece.
